Still frosty here. Looks like we may get the range open at 11:00am and the course a little later. May be able to start on temps then move the flags back later in the day.
Cloudy and frost....not a good mix for golf. There is a front moving in from the north creating very cold temps ( our brethern on the praries would laugh at us ). It is supposed to warm up so call ahead before coming out and we will open the course as soon as possible. Spring is coming.

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Another dank and dreary morning, but, it is still only Jan. The rest of the day is forecast for partly cloudy ( mostly sunny ) so, again another good day for golf. Unless it clears up we will be able to start on time. Play well.

Saturday, January 29, 2011

After an early morning shower we've been left with only drizzle (that's 'drizzle' with a lowercase 'd'...barely worth mentioning) to contend with. So far the radar shows no sign of the showers forecast for later today. With some frost likely for tomorrow morning, I think today is the day to get in a morning round.

Friday, January 28, 2011

Conditions are eerily similar to yesterday, which doesn't sound bad at all. Less than 1mm of rain is forecast for today but so far there's no sign of it. It should be a good day to get out there as tomorrow looks like it may be a bit wetter. Have fun.

Thursday, January 27, 2011

There are supposed to be a few showers in the area this morning , but those seldom hit us so another great day for golf ahead. The temps are cool but unless the skies clear there should be no frost. We are doing some drainage on the right side of #14 green so if you land your ball in the area it is ground under repair and you get a free drop. Play well .

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

There was just enough rain overnight to keep the dust down. Today's forecast is for a few clouds and a great day for golf. The temps are almost double digit so you fair weather golfers who only golf when the temps are double digits get your clubs all dusted off and come out for a round. Everything is a go for starting time. See you out there.

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

A mild morning like this gets a fellow thinking of spring. The day looks good for golf, no rain and light wind. All holes are open and we should start on time. See you out there.

Monday, January 24, 2011

Just a few showers moving through this morning so the day should be good for golfing. The full course will be open including 14. Play well.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

So far so good on the frost issue this morning, unless the skies clear up and it gets colder. The front nine greens opened Sat. afternoon and the back nine will open today except for #14 which is still frozen. We will have a temp. on 14. The forcast is for rain most of the week so enjoy the golf when you can. See you out there.

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Unfortunately we still have frosty conditions. We will continue to monitor and will move pins onto regular greens if conditions allow.
Frost has hit us again. We will start playing at 9:30 on temps and will move onto regular greens later in the day. The back nine is still closed as the ground is frozen below the surface creating a very soft vulnerable surface layer.

So far so good on the frost issue this morning, unless the skies clear up and it gets colder. It is trying to rain this morning but not yet wet or warm enough to thaw the greens. Until that happens we will be on temps. on the front nine only. Hopefully we will open the greens today. See you out there.

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

The sun is bright but we still have lots of frost. The range is open and the front nine may open after lunch on temps. Regular greens are doubtful today.
Still white here and cold. The sun is up but it looks like it will be a while yet. Will update you around 10:30am.
There is a beautiful full moon this morning and at this time of the year you know what that means. Frost. Phone ahead before coming out and we will have a better idea of when we will open. For all the photog's, Mt Aerosmith will be brilliant this morning. It could be one of those postcard pictures. See you out there.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Quite a change from yesterday morning. We have frost this morning even though there is cloud cover. It shouldn't stay too long. Seeing it was cold last night the greens on the back didn't thaw out so the back nine is still closed. The good news is that it's not supposed to rain until Thurs. See you out there.

Monday, January 17, 2011

There is such a warm breeze this morning I almost thought I was in the tropics somewhere. The front nine greens will be open today, the back nine still has a frozen zone under the greens. We will open the back as soon as the greens thaw out. Enjoy the day.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

One day runs into another it seems. There is still a frozen zone a few inches under the surface so the greens will remain closed until the ground is totally thawed. The front nine will be open on temps. if you need a fix. See you out there.

Saturday, January 15, 2011

The snow has melted but there is a lot of water that still needs somewhere to go. The front nine will be open on temporary greens today. The ground is still frozen underneath creating a very soft layer on top. The driving range will remain closed as it is too soft to pick up balls. Not a great scenario but if you feel the need for a walk come on out.

Friday, January 14, 2011

Here's a photo I took this morning of the driving range and #1. As you can see it is going to take significant rain to get rid of the snow. I am guessing it will be another 3 or 4 days at the earliest but then I tend to be a little more optimistic then most.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Still bad news on the golfing front. The golf course is covered in snow and we haven't had the rain that was predicted. It is a slow melt. At this rate it will be at least a couple of days before we see a substantial amount of green grass. I will keep you posted but it looks like it will be next week some time at the earliest.

Monday, January 10, 2011

Very cold and covered in snow. Looks like we will be closed for a while. I will update the blog later in the week.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Not good! Snow and more cold weather is coming. We will be closed for a few days if not longer. We need warm weather!!

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Still very frosty here. We will not open today but the range is open if you feel the need for a couple of swings.
Very cold start to the day! Heavy, heavy frost. Doubtful that we will get open today but if we do it will be on temps again. Forecast is for more freezing temps over the next couple of days. Could be a quiet January here at the Glen. Driving range will open a little later on the mats but the practice greens will remain closed.

Friday, January 7, 2011

It's a little warmer this morning but greens are still frozen. The problem is that there is a thin layer of turf that has thawed on top of frozen ground beneath. The frozen ground beneath is stopping the water from draining through causing a very mushy surface. Front nine will be open with temps.

Thursday, January 6, 2011

Well, it's another dreary day in Qualicum Beach. Front nine is open on temporary greens today. The ground is still frozen and isn't absorbing any of the water.

We have 3 new options for Pheasant Glen. You can join for as little as $375.00 plus annual dues. Contact the Golf Shop for more details. 250-752-8786

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Wow! Very cold again today. Frozen ground and some casual water on the surface of the greens will keep the course closed today. Looks like we will need a little rain and warmer temps to get things thawed out. The driving range is open if you feel the need to hit some balls.

Monday, January 3, 2011

Clear and minus 6, not a very good start to a golfers morning. The good news is that the record rainfall we had in Dec. has all drained away. The bad news is that the ground is frozen so hard that you can't get a tee in if you wanted to. The range will be open today but that is about it. There is rain in the forecast for tomorrow but if it doesn't warm up that precipitation could fall as snow. A nice cheerful blog for the first Monday in January. See you out there.
