Jan. 31

Can you believe Jan. is almost over. This morning feels like it's Feb. already. A warm 5c and a bit of fog. There should be no delay of the start time. There are rumors flying around that the sun is going to shine today so be prepared for any and all strange sights as I'm not sure the young people remember what the sun looks like and they could act erratically. Have fun today and we'll see you out there.

Testing new technology

This has been quite a year for me..I have gone from the stone age of technology (land line) to the space age in technology (smart phone) to blogging from my phone...whew, it's dizzying...where will it all end?

Course Update

The frost has lifted and we are open for play. All regular greens and good conditions. Another bonus day for January.
Thankfully normalcy has returned to the golf course. 0c with clear skies ....the start will be delayed because of frost. There is a front moving in so the delay shouldn't be too long. We've been starting around 10:00ish the last few days so probably the backside of that will be a better bet this morning. The forecast is for some warm temperatures coming up which will make for a nice transition for the returning snowbirds( no snow blowers, Bob ). I see that Jan. is done at the end of the week, is it just me or did it go by really fast. If this keeps up, summer will be here soon. Practice your putting this winter and lower your scores this summer, they do go hand in hand. We'll see you out there.

January 28th

Was a great day for golf. Can't believe the good golf days we've had this month. With such great course conditions we have set records for rounds of golf in January and we still have 3 days left.
1c and cloudy....now don't get too excited as there is an oddity this morning. We have frost, which is rare when the skies are overcast. We must of had a period of clear skies sometime during the night in order for the frost to form or maybe we experienced a flux in the space, time, continuum ( take that on a Monday morning). Either way the start shouldn't be delayed too long. Like yesterday, 10:00ish is a good target. Play well and we'll see you out there.

Course Update

Course is open for play. Air is a little damp today so you might want to put on an extra layer to keep warm. Not much different then the PGA Tour is experiencing in San Diego this week.
-1c with the moon shining bright and a salt truck skulking around...any one of those is bad enough but all three make for a morning of lingering breakfasts and extra coffee. The start will be delayed because of frost BUT, it looks like a front coming in out of the north with showers forecast so the delay might not be too long. A 10:00ish start time won't be too far off but call ahead to make sure. We'll see you out there.

Course is open!

The weekend has finally arrived and it looks to be a good day for golf. All greens are open an we are in time. Come on out and enjoy a game then brag that you played in such good conditions on January 26th.
We're all still in shock after seeing that yellow thing in the sky for so long yesterday, especially after there was a call for showers in the afternoon. Like yesterday we will start on time this morning; like yesterday some rain is expected a bit later in the day; like yesterday the forecast will be wrong and the sun will come out for the best day of golf in who-knows-how-long? Let's hope so. Enjoy your round.

January 25th

What a day today! Hard to believe it is January 25th. The sun is shining and course is full. Hope everyone made lots of birdies.

Weekend conditions

The weather doesn't look too bad for the weekend coming up. Maybe a drizzle or two but the course is in great shape and 18 holes is only $30.00.
Although there was ice on my car this morning there seems to be no frost at the course (so far). As long as the clouds hang around for a while there should no delay in start times and only a few showers in the afternoon to contend with. Enjoy your round.

Update successful

I believe it has been achieved! All the great news and course condition updates shared by the Maintenance Staff in the early mornings will now be updated to Twitter and Facebook at the same time.

Social media

In an effort to keep customers informed we are working to link all elements of our social media together. You can follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or Blog.
-1c with clear skies....Yes your right...we have frost . There is a front coming in later this morning bringing some rain so the delay shouldn't be too terribly long. If you call the pro shop around 10:00 we will have a better idea of the start time then. On a positive note..has everyone noticed how much longer the days have become in the last month?..no you say?, well let me tell you...we have gained 12 min. in the morning and a full 40 min. in the afternoon. With that much extra sunshine you know spring is just around the corner. Chip close and take your gimmie. We'll see you out there.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

2c and raining...well?!?... the start will be on time this morning. It's been 15 days since it rained last, sigh, and I was just getting used to the dry weather, sigh. Rain doesn't bother me though, sigh, and I know a few golfers who don't mind it either, sigh, so we'll see you out here.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

We are open for play. All regular greens in play and just a hint of fog.
Getting closer to starting. We will update again at 9:30.
-1 with fog patches....yeahh*^%$......yesterday morning we had hoarfrost forming for about an hour ... we don't get to see that very often (second time in 16 years). The start will be delayed a bit this morning as we have a touch of frost but with the fog patches in the area that should melt fairly quickly. Another extended breakfast with a nap should be about right for timing the start. Have fun today.

Monday, January 21, 2013

Course update.

Greens are open but we have thick fog. Be careful.

Conditions update

Wow, coldest day in January today. Heavy fog and any moisture has turned into frost. We are hoping to get open later but at this rate it is going to be a while.
-4c with a stars shining brightly...sounds great if your a skier, not so much if your a golfer. Go back to sleep for awhile, have an extended breakfast and read two papers this morning. Do all that and you still might have to wait to tee off. A target of 11:00ish for a start won't be too far off and whether on temps or not is up to M.N. Enjoy your leisurely morning and maybe later we'll see you here.

Sunday, January 20, 2013

0c and foggy...really foggy. There is no frost at present so the start should be on time. All bets are off though, if the fog lifts and the sky is clear. It looks like another week of sunshine ahead, just like the week of sunshine we experienced last week. Gee all this sunshine is sure hard on the eyes...don't laugh, we must of had at least 4 hours of sunshine last week. I know it's bad when the guys I golf with are getting excited when the clouds just thin a bit. Have fun at whatever you do today. Did I mention that it is really foggy?

Saturday, January 19, 2013

It's a bit cooler than yesterday morning but conditions are otherwise similar. The cloud cover has kept the frost at bay and as long as it hangs around through sunrise we should have no trouble starting on time. They're calling for sunshine all weekend, so come on out and make the most of the great conditions. Enjoy your round.

Friday, January 18, 2013

The decent weather continues... Slightly overcast and 3 degrees on the right side of zero means we have no frost and we'll start on time this morning. Have fun out there.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

The good news...all greens are open on the Glen and ( actually 2 good news or is that newses, Whoa! ) there is no frost so the start will be on time. The Pines is a bit stubborn but we might see some movement today. To the optimists around, the last week might of been winter and spring could be a bit early and upon us now. I'm alright with that. Lets go optimists. Play well and even if you don't, have fun. We'll see you out there.

Greens update

8 of the greens on the Glen are open for play today. We will be checking the Pines greens throughout the day.
The good news is that conditions haven't deteriorated any since yesterday, we are still moving in the right direction. I know it's not fast enough for all of us around here but Mother Nature can be a b---- (cantankorous ) at times. At present we have no frost so the start will be on time, unfortunately, we will still be on some temps. It's a start and we'll , as usual, get greens open as they thaw out. Hit 'em close and don't worry about putting.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

A bit of an improvement in the temperature from yesterday but still not enough to thaw the greens. If the trend continues though we could see some greens opening later today. The forecast for later in the week is for above, yes above, normal temperatures and sunshine. There will be skeptics on that one. We will start on time this morning, on temps, on the Glen only. Play well and don't worry about putting, just give yourself the third one.

Monday, January 14, 2013

What do salt trucks and golfers have in common? Not a darn thing. If I see a salt truck in the morning when I'm coming to work I can almost guaranty that I won't see any golfers first thing in the morning. The temperature is slightly warmer this morning ( 0c ) but not hot enough to melt the frozen ground. We got out on temps on the Glen around noon yesterday but the ground was frozen and I doubt if you could get a tee in it. With forecast highs of 2c, today doesn't look like much of a change from yesterday but who knows miracles can happen. Hopefully we'll see you out here.

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Is 'sunshine' all it's cracked up to be? If you're a golfer, at this time of year, it sure as heck isn't . Another cold morning at hand. Will we open ? I sure hope so but Mother Nature is responsible for getting us in this horrible situation and she will have to get us out and the old bat is cantankerous at present. There are rumors that the long range forecast is for above normal temperatures so I guess patience is the word of the week. There are a couple of NFL playoff games today and the last round of the Sony Open is on and it looks like a couple of rookies in the lead so there are a few things to keep an eye on today, other than the frost. What ever you do today, make it fun.

Saturday, January 12, 2013

I don't who the optimistic blogger was who thought we'd get out on temps yesterday... The ground stayed rock solid all day, and the slightly thawed out areas were at the exact state where any traffic would certainly damage the turf.
Today's high is going to be even lower than yesterday, so I wouldn't get too optimistic about getting in a round of golf today. Perhaps some very, very early Christmas shopping instead? We'll see you out here as soon as the weather gets with the program.

Friday, January 11, 2013

-1 with clear skies followed by an eventual high of 2 measly degrees above zero. We'll certainly start (and possibly finish) the day on temps, but I'm guessing we won't be able to get out there until at least 11:00. Plenty of time to catch up on anything that needs it. Stay warm and have fun today.

Thursday, January 10, 2013

1c with clear skies...yes that means frost. The sun is supposed to shine all day so that should mean not too long of a delay to start the day. The rest of the week looks clear as well so at least we'll see sunshine ( a rare sight ). If you plan for a 10:30ish tee time you shouldn't be too far off either way. Play well and we'll see you out there ( we might not recognize you with sunglasses on so wave ).

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Wasn't that just a special day yesterday. After all was said and done we ended up with over an inch ( 28mm ) of rain. The good news is that we didn't get any snow and the way it sounds there was snow all around us. Clean living is the key I guess, yep clean living. Today's start should be on time ( where have you heard that before ) with just a few showers in the forecast. The huge amount of water we received takes awhile to vacate the golf course so expect a few puddles on your round today. The rest of the week looks like it's going to be clear and sunny. Have fun at whatever you do today.

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

You can mark this day on your calendar...cloud cover and, frost. It's not too often that that happens. So here's the question of the morning..If there is precipitation like the forecast says there is going to be, will it come down as rain and melt the frost or will it come down as snow and ruin everybodys day?? Ooh the drama builds here at PGGR, stay tuned for the outcome. Baton down the hatches ( Wayne ) as there is a wind warning for this afternoon. Have fun today and maybe we'll see you out here.
p.s.....The start time is ( picture a fortune teller peering into a crystal ball ) cloudy. Call the pro shop later for a clearer picture.

Monday, January 7, 2013

It's a bit breezy at the moment with showers in the forecast. Sounds like the start will be on time today UNLESS, like yesterday, the sky clears up, the temperature drops and frost comes to visit. Was yesterday an anomaly?...we shall see. The afternoons are getting longer ( already 15+ min. from Dec.21 ) and before you know it spring will be upon us. Whew that was a short winter. Play well and we'll see you out there

Sunday, January 6, 2013

2c, overcast with showers in the forecast. And do you believe that the previous statement will bring joy and happiness to many people? Well you should because if you are reading this you are most likely one of them. The start will most likely be on time and the full course awaiting the birdie onslaught about to happen. Enjoy your round today and better yet bring joy to your fellow golfer ( give a 12" putt ). We'll see you out there.

Saturday, January 5, 2013

We didn't get the sun and/or rain we were hoping for but the temperature stayed on the right side of zero overnight. With that we'll definitely start on time this morning and have only some forecasted light rain to contend with for the rest of the day. Not too bad. Enjoy your round.

Friday, January 4, 2013

When I heard raindrops on the roof last night I thought we'd be open on all greens and on time today. However, it turns out the rain amounted to very little and the temperature didn't rise much overnight. As a result, the greens are still frozen and there's frost out there! To add a bit of salt to the wound, so far there's no sign of the rain we were supposed to be getting today. So, there will likely be a delay in start times this morning (hard to say how long at this point) and when we get going it will be on temps on the Glen nine only. Sigh...come on sunshine, come on rain. Either of you would do right about now.

Thursday, January 3, 2013

-3c.. moon shining bright..There will be time this morning for a hearty breakfast, an extra cup of coffee and a nice long nap. We started on temps around 11:30 yesterday and we won't be earlier than that today. The good news is that there is rain forecast for tomorrow and the next few days so we may have full days of golf on the weekend. Has anyone seen ' The Hobbit' in 3D?...it's pretty good.

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Frost update

We have opened 9 holes on temp greens. Regular greens may open if they thaw out this afternoon.
-2c with the moon trying to make an appearance ....that's not good . It is cold out there. The start time will be delayed this morning ( I hear some of you going 'Duuhh'). It looks like 11:00ish would be a good time to contact the pro shop to see if there is a guesstimate on the start. The days are noticeably longer already so things are definitely looking up. Enjoy your day.
