Wednesday

Ho-Ho-Holy Guacamole, the frost is upon us. It's hard to say when the course will open, so I'd recommend giving the Pro Shop a call around 10:30 for an update. If you don't get out today have a Merry Christmas and we'll see you in the new year.

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Tuesday

It's a bit breezy and showers are expected today, but what that says to the golf-minded is No Frost! The start will be on time, so we'll see you out there.

Monday, December 22, 2014

Monday

The trouble with this time of the year (winter, duh)is that when the stars are visible,  frost is also. Now it's just a guessing game...what minute of what hour will the frost melt? 10:30ish would be my guess for today and like the weather person, there is no penalty for being wrong. Stupid frost! ! Oh yah, the days are getting longer now, spring is just around the corner.

Sunday

A bit of rain yesterday and overnight but nothing compared to last week. The skies are clear and there is no frost (yet) so the start should be on time. Golf on the first day of winter? what is better than that..rhetorical question. ..play well

Saturday

Today we're offering a chance at scratch golf. Yes, there are rain and wind warnings but par waits for no one. Come out and grab it.

Friday, December 19, 2014

Friday

With half an inch of rain yesterday there won't be a lot of roll on your drives today. However, I guarantee it will be a drier day today than tomorrow, so come on out and get some exercise while the puddles are small.

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Thursday

The stars are visible. ..there's  frost on the course...rain is supposed to be coming...if it starts raining before 9:00 the start will be on time... if not it won't...stupid frost, it ruins everything! !!

Wednesday

6c and rain showers. ..doesn't that sound like a perfect day for golf? ..
.in December in Canada. ..who knows?  you might not need your umbrella today...play well.

Kelly

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Tuesday

4c with the odd drop of rain...not unusual for this time of year..the greens have thawed from yesterday's frost so it's a go for golf at 9:00...layers and maybe an umbrella. .

Kelly

Monday, December 15, 2014

Monday

-3c..what can I say...oh, the water is draining off the course nicely. ..we won't be cutting fairways for a day or two yet but we're getting closer. The frost should be gone around 11:00ish and when we get going,  the Glen will be in play. The radar shows some showers heading this way so if that happens the start will be earlier than mentioned previously. It's so confusing this time of year. Personally, I like summer better.

Update

With the water flowing out of here at a record pace we will be able to use carts on the Pines today...cart paths only of course.

Kelly

Sunday

Temperature hovering around 0c, bad news...no rain until Tuesday, good news...the water level on the course has dropped 14 inches, good news..put that all together and you get, frost and when that lifts we'll be playing the Pines with no carts...stupid 145mm of rain in December. Start time 11:00ish? Maybe.

Kelly

Saturday, December 13, 2014

Saturday

Apparently, five inches of rain in four days doesn't drain away overnight. Who knew?
There are still impassable areas on The Glen, so it will remain closed for now. The Pines, however, will be available for play to those with rubber socks and prudent course management. Power carts will not be available today, unfortunately.
Let the draining continue...

Friday, December 12, 2014

Friday

Another 28mm of rain yesterday didn't exactly help the golfer's cause. We'll keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow but...but...
See you ASAP.

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Thursday

Another 25mm overnight for a total of 113mm so far in December. ..that's a lot of water..more coming today..depending on what happens today we could be open Saturday...depending...

Wednesday

From now on when the Weather Network says  'an incredible series of storms is coming' I'm going to believe them...wow..over 75mm of rain and wind gusts this morning in the 70kph range...nasty...it's supposed to calm down some this afternoon but we have to get rid of all the water so tomorrow might even be iffy for golf...patience. ..I'm getting sick of that word.

Tuesday

I guess when it's 11c at this time of year we have to expect some sort of extraordinary weather  'event'...well we have an  'event' happening this morning. ..it's a tad breezy with  showers in the area...35mm overnight and more to come.. another storm coming in tonight with similar conditions as the one we're experiencing now..relax, stay dry and think about the golf you'll play on the weekend.

Kelly

Monday, December 8, 2014

Monday

8c...a very mild morning..oh yah..there is a bit of a wind and rainfall warn issued for the next four or five days..when the weather network uses the term  'incredible series of storms' you kind of know something is coming...who knows? it might miss us...leave the umbrella, gusts to 75 kph..just sayin'

Sunday

Jack (Frost) has left the property. ..we have all the greens open on both nines and they will be freshly cut and rolled for this auspicious occasion...it's supposed to be warm all week so shed a layer before you head out...the little bit of precipitation forecast is of secondary importance ...enjoy your round and we'll see you out there.

Kelly

Saturday

Baby steps, baby steps...

The rain that was supposed to come yesterday turned out to be "rain", so there is still more thawing to be done out there. However, it's been mild enough that the practice and putting greens will be open today along with at least seven of the greens on the front nine. Have fun out there.

Friday, December 5, 2014

Friday

It'll take a lot more than last night's shower to thaw out the greens but at least you can get a tee in the ground today. We should have the front nine open on temps today, so come on out if a bit of rain doesn't bother you.

Thursday, December 4, 2014

Thursday

-1c...it tried to rain a bit earlier but it didn't amount to anything so we're still frozen ...showers this afternoon and rain tomorrow. .hopefully we'll get open this weekend. ..it all depends on how stubborn mother nature gets.

Saturday

As you may have guessed, the course is currently lacking the colour green. White is the order of the day as we're covered in snow. It's not supposed to get above freezing today, so I'd recommend some indoor activities for now. See you after the thaw.

Friday, November 28, 2014

Friday

It's a bit soggy out there after more rain yesterday but that won't stop anyone who is (or should be) committed. We're on the cusp of frost but if the clouds hang around through sunrise we should be able to start on time. See you out there.

Thursday, November 27, 2014

Thursday

10c ..hellooo! !!...it's November 27..this is crazy...ok abnormal. ..there are showers in the area but I don't think the rain will start until later in the day or maybe after dark...play on.

Saturday

Oops. I got so excited about the greens thawing out that I forgot to blog!
All eighteen holes will be open today once this frost takes its leave. It will be a beautiful day once we get going, so come on out and break your course record.

Friday, November 21, 2014

Friday

And so the thaw begins...

Eight of the front nine greens will be open today along with both practice greens and the driving range. If we get the rain that we were promised -- and it looks likely -- the lone holdout on the front may open later today. A full 18-hole round is not far off, so dust off your clubs for this weekend.

Thursday, November 20, 2014

Thursday

We will be on temps to start the day...no rain over night so the greens are still frozen part way down..hopefully they thaw completely today..patience.

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Wednesday

2c...we've seen some improvement at the golf course (frost related) but the course is still frozen...if mother nature is kind we could get out on temps around noon...the driving range will be open all day...call before coming out if your desire is to play golf...patience, it's supposed to rain tonight.

Kelly

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Tuesday

We're trending in the right direction. ..now don't get excited as we're still a couple of days and/or a rainfall away from thawing out and opening..patience. ..the driving range will be open today.

Kelly

Monday, November 17, 2014

Another cold morning..-6c..the ground is frozen and it doesn't warm up enough to thaw out so no golf again today...the driving range will be open later ...that could either tease or appease. ..rain is coming...patience, patience.

-5c...agaaaain! !?!!...don't despair, rain by the end of the week. I bet you never thought that in the middle of October...watch golf, CFL and NFL football, reruns of Holmes on homes, anything but soccer. ..who watches that anyway? ...if the temperature gets to the forecast high we might be able to get out on temps near noon ...call the pro shop before coming out though.

Kelly

Saturday, November 15, 2014

Saturday

On the upside: it's warmer than -7. On the downside: it's a touch colder than -6.

Not exactly conducive to golf, unfortunately. All surfaces were still frozen well into the afternoon yesterday, so even nine holes on temps is unlikely again today. Thankfully, there are some soccer games on the tube, so all is not lost.

Yep, you guessed it, we have frost. Now I know the next question is when is it lifting so we can get out on such a beautiful day? I could tell you 9:34 , but that would be a lie. The truth is I don't know when the frost will lift but my guess for today will be 10:00ish. Tomorrow when we have frost again my guess will be closer to the actual fact than it is today...patience is the word...we'll see you out there.

Not the warmest start to the day... It's frosty and white at the course at the moment, so we're looking at a bit of a delay. I'm going to guess for an 8:30 start time while hoping for an earlier one. It should be a pretty nice day afterward, though, so all is not lost. Enjoy your round.

14 degrees in the afternoon doesn't sound as good when it's this chilly in the morning. You heard it here first: FROST is in the air and, more to the point, on the grass. If I had to guess, and I do, 8:30 would be a time to shoot for. Start with a toque and end with sunscreen today. Have fun.

Not a heat wave but definitely warmer than yesterday. ..no frost today...we will finish aerating the practice greens today and we're thanking whoever was in charge of the weather for such perfect conditions for the aforementioned aeration. I know it's hard to believe, but we have frost at the moment and yes the start will be delayed. The sun is supposed to shine this morning so the wait shouldn't be too long. I guess, too long, is a relative term. If you need to golf immediately any wait is, too long..and if you are relaxed about golfing on St. Patrick's Day then, too long, doesn't mean a thing (does relaxed mean a lot of green beer already?..funny you never hear about Irish whiskey on St. Pat's day...ok ok get back). Is digress the word I'm thinking of? Play well, celebrate hard.

The frogs sure think that spring is here...they're croaking up a storm this morning. ..I have a tendency to trust them more than the weatherman so, ..spring is officially here and you can take that to the bank! !!...the start will be on time ...bring your sunscreen, the sun is going to shine! We'll see you out there.

Sunday, March 9, 2014

Sunday

64mm (2 1/2 in.) of rain in the last week...the good news is that we only got 22mm yesterday and not the 30-50mm that was forecast. Yeaahhh! !...The really good news is that we should have a mostly sunny week ahead. Golf anyone? The start will be on time...we'll see you out there.

Saturday

Fair-weather golfers, you may want to look away from the screen.

So far the rain is light but the wind is gaining weight. Those cynical forecasters are predicting more rain and steady wind throughout the day, as if it were a bad thing. They must not be golfers. The hardiest of you are already packing up your rain jackets and your resolve, so we'll see you out there soon.

Friday

Today is the day to golf. Don't believe me? Check tomorrow's forecast. Ugh.
However, that ugh is followed by what looks to be a week of good weather, so things are looking up. Enjoy your round (today).

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Thursday

18mm of rain overnight and I guess that is good news as the snow that was lingering on the Pines is almost all gone. Gone enough to start playing out there anyway. 6c with rain falling ...yeah...the start will be on time. Spring is just around the corner.

Wednesday

Who is the clown that ordered yesterday's weather. ..a real laugh that was...today is going to be much better. ..well, there should be no snow anyway...the Glen will open on time...there is a free drop if your ball lands in the snow surrounding a few of the greens, they needed the snow off more than the others...the Pines is still a couple of days or an inch of rain away from opening...we're making progress.

Kelly

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

Tuesday

You knew this day was coming...the snow is gone from the Glen...the Pines? ..still covered...now don't get too excited, because we have frost at present... that will lift a bit later (10:00ish) and all that pent up golf can be released. ..probably only 9 holes open today but that's a lot better than yesterday. ..baby steps Bob, baby steps.

Monday

If the rain comes a bit harder and the temperature rises some (lots) we should be golfing in a few days...wasn't that just a February to remember! !!!???!!!...have you had to replace your carpet yet...that vacuum is a nasty machine if your not careful.

Sunday

March 2th...snowfall warning in effect..snow still on the ground from last week...we need to do something about this global warming and I'm sure our brethren from the Prairies would agree...I clicked on the Yorkton icon on the Weather Network web page and my screen froze, that's how cold it is back in the Old Country...here's to hoping we don't get any more snow..

Kelly

Saturday, March 1, 2014

Saturday

I guess a frosty morning isn't an issue when there's still snow on the ground...

Enjoy the warmth of home for at least one more day and join us in hoping that tomorrow's precipitation falls in the form of droplets. No more flakes permitted.

Friday, February 28, 2014

Friday

Things are still very white out here. There is a fair amount of rain in the forecast for the coming days, though, so keep your fingers crossed for the baring of green grass. Enjoy your day.

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Thursday

If you believe the forecast, we have good news....March is going to come in like a lion...yeah! !!??!!!...that's it..

Kelly
p.s.  we are still covered in snow

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Wednesday

It didn't freeze overnight (small victory) we still have snow so don't get excited...don't look at next weeks forecast if you are prone to depression. ..warm for the next couple of days at least. Putt, vacuum, nap, (did you notice the change up? )...keep on your toes folks...focus should be in there as an exercise as well I guess.

Kelly

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Tuesday

Yeaaahhhh......what's a foot of snow in the grand scheme of things. ..it's going to be 9c on Thursday. ..doesn't it look nice out,  all white and everything...putt, vacuum, putt, vacuum, nap and repeat...three days of that, then tell somebody your not crazy and see how that goes for you.

Kelly

Monday, February 24, 2014

Monday

Who jinxed the weather by claiming spring was here...idiot. ..snow is falling at present. ..hopefully it turns to rain soon...9c is the forecast high for tomorrow and if that happens, the snow won't last long..we have about 4 inches of the white stuff just in case you are in a location that has none...you know like the frost..'there is none at my place'..that place...don't hurt yourself shoveling.

Kelly

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Sunday

If this keeps up any longer (snow) we'll have to get the plow out..book a time for Tuesday as that will be the next chance to golf and it could be busy...or should I say could be the next chance for golf and will be busy...I'm so confused! !

Kelly

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Saturday

I tell you, the snow is a foot deep if it's an inch!

Ok, so maybe there's an inch. Alright, half an inch. Enough to ruin a tee time, anyway. And enough to make driving a car a bad idea -- please be careful if you have to venture outside today, and we'll see you when Snowmageddon is over.

Friday, February 21, 2014

Friday

"Spring is here"?? Where? It's currently -1 and the greens look more like whites. So does everything else, in fact. Give the pro shop a call around 10:00 and we'll see how quickly we're able to get going on what should later be a beautiful day.

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Thursday

Wow...cutting and rolling greens this morning and changing holes also...spring is here...enjoy your day

Aieh aieh aieh aieh aieh. ...what a February this is turning out to be..stupid winter....it's -1c and clear ...frosty and frozen...there will be temps to start and that won't be on time (sigh) ...we will open the greens if and when we can...stupid winter...call the pro shop for an update around 10:00ish...stupid winter..

Kelly

Tuesday

Most of the snow is gone (good news) ...the greens are frozen ( bad news) ...it's raining (believe it or not good news) ...it's blowing out of the SE at 30 kph (bad news)...we will get out on temps and if it rains long enough and gets a bit warmer we'll get some greens open sometime today...this winter sucks... oh, by the way, we've had close to 100mm of rain in the last week..just sayin'..

Kelly

Monday, February 17, 2014

Monday

Isn't this just a special way to start the week...0c with frozen snow on the ground...the good news is that the snow is only 25mm deep. Where's the vacuum? and the putter? Noon would be a good time to check for an update.

Kelly

Sunday, February 16, 2014

The Glen nine is all open on regular greens, and the Pines nine is currently being inspected for any remaining signs of frost.

Sunday

Rain and blow like he__ then clear up and get cold as he__ then get frosty as he__ ..that's a lot of he__'s (heck's 'silly' )..since last Tuesday we've received 65mm of rain..just stating the facts (as grim as they are). Have a third cup this morning..we have frost and the wind is as cold as heck..see above...

Saturday, February 15, 2014

Saturday

The clouds I see this morning were apparently not around last night as there is some newly frozen ground (as opposed to frost) out there. We shouldn't be surprised, though, as a nearly-two-week freeze takes some time to thaw out and allow all the surface water to drain completely. The forecasted rain can't come fast enough, I suppose.

Long story short, by the time the first group tees off the fairways are likely to be soft enough to dig your spikes into (good news). Currently, the final four holes on the Glen will start the day open for play (good news). The next couple of hours will tell us more about the other greens (just news).

Oh, winds of up to 56 km/hr are expected later today with gusts up to 71 km/hr (bad news).

Friday, February 14, 2014

Friday

Okay, here's the morning scoop: a bit of rain last night has thawed out 5 greens on the Glen. Two more may open up later in the day but the remaining two holdouts (and the Pines) really need a downpour to speed up the thawing process. Fortunately, this weekend is supposed to include a few of those. So, between sweet nothings on this Valentine's Day, please join us in a rain dance. Enjoy your round.

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Thursday

Yes,  it was mild all night with a bit of rain. Did it help to thaw the greens? ..yes it helped a bit,  but, not enough yet. We still have a frost layer in the greens  (everywhere) so we'll be on temps again today. Patience, patience, patience. It took ten days to get this way, and it will take a few (could be four or five) days to return to normal.

Kelly

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Wednesday

20mm of rain overnight on top of the frozen ground equals standing water. We will open on temps on the Glen today. The ground is still frozen about an inch down so don't get your hopes up for regular greens today, in fact tomorrow might be a stretch. Temps on time. It's something.

What happens when it rains 8mm then clears up and freezes. ..the start of an outdoor skating rink is what happens. Be extra cautious on the road this morning as the roads are icy...the rain is forecast to start this afternoon then it's wait and see how soon we thaw out. Putt, vacuum, putt, yah yah yah ...

Course update February 10

A touch of snow here this morning and trying to rain. A good sign as the rain and warmer temperatures will help thaw us out. If you have to come to the course I suggest waiting until after 12:00 as the driveway is a little slippery this morning. The course will probably be closed until Wednesday at the earliest but the range will open today at 12:00.

Sunday, February 9, 2014

Sunday

It looks like there is hope for golf later this week. With all the cold weather we need a few (just a guess) days to thaw out. The rain (when it gets here) will help a lot. Putt, vacuum, etc., etc...you know! !

-3 feels like -5...less than 1cm of snow forecast for this morning. ..forecast high of 1c...are we golfing today? ?...highly unlikely...the ground is frozen at present and there is frost to contend with ...call the proshop around 10:30 and we'll have a better idea of if/when we'll open.

Monday, February 3, 2014

Monday

There is a skiff of frozen white precipitation on the ground and the temperature is 0c...combine all that with a NW wind at 15 kph and it feels a bone chilling -3c. Saturday

-1 with frost on top of frost. Give the pro shop a call around 10:30 and we'll see if we can guesstimate a start time.

Friday, January 31, 2014

Friday

An overnight shower and some cloud cover have kept the frost at bay this morning. As long as the clouds don't clear out in a rush we should be able to start on time. And, if the forecasters aren't pulling our legs, we're due for sunshine a bit later in the day. Enjoy your round.

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Thursday

Frost frost frost...the forecast is for rain (light) today but so far it hasn't shown up, hence the frost. Have an extra cup this morning and wait for the rain. We will most likely get out by 10:30 (temps? ) if the rain holds off that long. Patience.

Saturday

It's a carbon copy of yesterday morning, with clear skies, -1 on the thermometer and frost as expected. There's fog in the forecast but let's hope it doesn't show up as the direct sunshine got us started just after 10:30 yesterday. Hope for the best and we'll see you out there.

Friday, January 24, 2014

Friday

In January a morning fit for stargazing is not exactly conducive to an early tee time. It's clear, cold and frosty out there. Tee times will certainly be pushed back this morning, so give the pro shop a call after 10:00 for an update.

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Thursday

I hate to sound cynical but I'll never believe a forecast again. Where's the blazing sun we were told was imminent? Instead we're up to our ears in fog to start the day. Fog tends to burn off, though, so by the time you read this it could all be gone? Think warm thoughts and have a good game.

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Wednesday

A little cooler this morning but the clouds are still doing their frost-denying best to keep the start time from being delayed. May they hang around for an hour or so and then vamoose until further needed. Enjoy your round.

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Tuesday

So far there's enough cloud cover to keep the frost away this morning, so if things stay like this we'll be starting on time. Have a good round.

Saturday, January 18, 2014

Saturday

As sometimes happens, the forecasters fed us some misinformation yesterday. Today was supposed to be the start of a very sunny week but instead we're socked in with fog. The sun should make an appearance tomorrow as the weather improves throughout the week. Keep your fingers crossed/overlapped/interlocked that that holds true.

Friday, January 17, 2014

Friday

Another day in paradise: the clouds have kept the frost away (so far) and as of tomorrow there looks to be a week of sunshine coming up. No complaints here.

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Thursday

It's a rare Jan.16 where there's not only no frost to start the day -- hopefully, the clouds don't clear up too quickly and surprise us with a temperature drop -- but it's dry enough out there to allow us to get out and cut some grass. As long as you stick to the tees, fairways and greens your playing surface is likely to be short and striped by the end of the day. Enjoy your round.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Wednesday

In the good news/bad news category, there will be no frost delay this morning but that's based on feel rather than eyesight as it's too foggy to see much at all at this point. Caution recommended on roads and golf courses!

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Tuesday

Back to normal...that was short lived..this spring thing could have the decency to last a bit longer. We have frost at moment so have that third cup and call the proshop for an update around 10:00.

Kelly

Monday, January 13, 2014

Monday

Wow...a heat wave hit overnight. Isn't that just a pleasant surprise. It has cooled off a tad but still 6c which isn't too bad for this time of year. The remnants of the rain over the weekend are almost all gone so all is normal again. Golf on.

Kelly

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Sunday

Another 1/2 " (13mm) of rain yesterday and overnight to add to the rain from the day before, 2 " (50mm). The course drains fairly well but with that volume over that short timeframe, well we're wet. Give us until 11:00 then call the proshop for an update. The driving range will be closed until 11:00 also and hopefully we'll of drained enough by then to open. How does that saying go " it never rains, but it pours"?

Kelly

Saturday, January 11, 2014

Soggy Saturday

WOW. I thought the rain gauge was acting up this morning when I saw that the overnight total was "2.01 inches". And then I drove the course... The gauge is working just fine.

There are a few puddles to navigate around but the course drains off quite well, so rubber boots may be only a temporary necessity. The great news is that there is no frost! Enjoy your day.

Friday, January 10, 2014

Friday

With some more rain coming and the wind warning in effect for this afternoon it looks like an early round of golf is the wise choice today. Fortunately, there is no frost to be found and the start will be on time.

Thursday, January 9, 2014

Thursday

You know it's going to be one of those days when you have to scrape your windshield in the morning. Yes we have fffrrrosssttt. Now the question is "are the greens frozen" and we won't know that until the frost lifts. Ooh the suspense! ! Have an extra cup and call the pro shop around 10:00ish.

Hallelujah brothers and sisters...we have a thawed out Glen..the Pines is a bit more stubborn..don't let the threat of rain today deter you from enjoying a round of golf ...who knows it might be your best round of the year. Oooohhh... the excitment of it all.

Kelly

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Tuesday

It's raining...now that sounds good for a full course to play on this morning but it hasn't rained enough yet to thaw out the greens. We will be on temps to start the day and then, like always, put the greens in play as soon as possible. It's such a perfect day for golf too, ...2c ( feels like 0c) a SE breeze at 15kph and a touch of rain. ..beautiful.

Anootthheerr clear and cold (relatively) night...but rejoice, rain is in the forecast. Don't get too excited about golfing today until 11:00ish and then we'll be on temps. IF the sun shines we might get on the greens around 1:00ish, maybe. Rain for the rest of the week so clean your clubs and shine up your putter for we'll be golfing for real tomorrow or Wednesday for sure (there are a lot of for's in that sentence, whew! !) Patience. .it's only January 6th.

Friday, January 3, 2014

Friday

Happy-yet-frosty New Year to everyone. After yesterday's mild morning and rainy afternoon the clouds moved on and the cold moved in, leaving us with one frozen, white golf course. It'll be quite a while before we get going today, so I'd recommend checking back with the pro shop some time after 10:00 for an update.
