There should be no frost to contend with this morning so the start could, almost,maybe, be on time. Old man winter has been camping out on the back nine for quite a while now but we are hoping he'll move on one of these days. He is really cranky so it is best if we don't provoke him too too much. There was a bit of rain overnight then the skies cleared and ....the same thing happened as always happens with clear skies at this time of year. We were open on the front nine yesterday and the greens made it through the snow in good condition. The back nine greens are still frozen so hopefully today they will thaw out. Although it is much warmer today the course is still covered in snow. The rain yesterday and overnight helped a little but it will be a couple of days yet before we are out there enjoying the great conditions we have been spoiled with all winter. With the forecast temperature to not be much above freezing I'd suggest to plan something other than golf today and the extra cautious will have a contingency plan for the rest of the week as well. The early morning course inspection revealed pretty much what you'd guess: frost and frozen greens. The small amount of precipitation expected today won't be enough to thaw out the greens, so we'll be on temps when the front nine opens. The frost should lift earlier than yesterday -- let's hope for somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00 -- but I'd recommend phoning ahead before tying up your golf shoes.

The minus 1 temperature is a clear indication that there is frost at the golf course. The light cloud cover hasn't been able to keep the thermometer above the freezing point. Yesterday we didn't get going until close to noon and then it was on temps. I don't see much of a difference today. The best golf today will be after lunch ( and maybe a bit of a nap ). It looks like a full week of clear weather coming up which would be nice in the summer not so much in the winter. The start time will be delayed this morning. The bad: It won't be until at least 11:00. The course is currently frozen solid, so when the frost does come off we will likely start on temps. It will be open for walkers only as there is still too much water on certain areas of the cart path, but carts will be allowed out as soon as possible.

There was 23.5mm of rain since yesterday morning so the golf course will still be very wet. There are a few showers passing through this morning then forecasted sunny skies so we should see a substantial drop in the standing water today. It is unlikely we will open today but if there is no rain today we should open by the weekend.

The skies are clear so the sun should melt the frost around the same time as it usually does ( 11:00ish ). Since I arrived here this morning the clouds have moved on and the temperature has dropped accordingly. If you're a fan of frost you'll be happy to know that it is settling in nicely. We golfers and maintenance workers, however, are not so thrilled. There's a chance that a few of the greens may open up later in the day, but for the moment that is only hearsay and shouldn't be taken as gospel. Check back for an update on the frost at 9:00 or so; we should have a better idea then of what the day will bring us.

The course is in summer condition with the front nine fairways cut and the rest of the course in the process of being cut. Ugh. Two inches of rain overnight doesn't make for a pleasant morning at the golf course. For those with structurally sound galoshes the driving range and front nine will be open today. The rain has helped to thaw the greens, but they are still very soft and will need to drain completely before we are able to open them for play. The cloud cover has kept the frost at bay so far this morning; however, the temperature is dropping and will continue to do so for a while yet. We'll play this one by ear and update the blog as the morning pans out, but I suspect we'll be in for a rude and icy awakening shortly.

The temperature is dropping like a stone, well a small stone, well a pebble, well a small pebble, well it is dropping!.!? There will be frost this morning so the start time will be delayed. I have noticed that we have a couple of greens with anger damage on them. That is pieces of turf gouged out , I'm assuming with a putter after missing a putt. I hope that the other golfers in the group with the offending golfer let it be known that such action will not be tolerated and if it happens again will turn the culprit in to the pro-shop. If we, ( we being fellow golfers ) can police ourselves on this and stop the angry golfer from doing damage to the greens we all benefit from the better conditions. Thanks. The forecast is for showers this morning. The temperature is a nice 6c with a bit of a breeze so the start will be on time today. The snow birds are leaving daily now so if I don't see you before you go please travel safely and have a wonderful winter. We will be here to welcome you back in the spring. Clear skies this morning....everyone knows by now what that means...its a good morning for star gazing. The big dipper looks like it is pouring out whatever contents it contains. It is amazing how much it moves over the course of a night. No wonder the ancients thought we were the center of the universe with everything spinning around us. When the frost leaves ( 10:00ish ) it will be a great day for a round of golf. We'll see you out there.

Low and behold....some cloud cover moved in with a warm breeze and now there is no frost. Ignore the first blog ( except the part about the chocolate ) . The start should be on time.

3c this morning which means there is frost on the golf course. It has been melting off around 10:00 these last few days so that will be a good time to shoot for, for a start time. Have a happy Halloween and try not scare too many kids tonight. Just to let you know, most of the grounds crew aren't allergic to chocolate. We'll see you out there.
