"Minus 3 degrees and cooling" doesn't suggest an early round of golf today. The freeze set in pretty early last night, so we'll likely be on temps when we're able to start. Check back for an update around lunchtime to see what we're in for today.
Friday, December 30, 2011
There's a pretty chilly breeze out there, with some frost on the back nine to start the day. We should start on time, though, and will most likely have the back open by the time the first groups finish playing the front. Enjoy the day.
Thursday, December 29, 2011
It is one of those mornings where the frost hasn't hit but could any time if the temperature drops a bit. We received another 10mm of rain overnight which shouldn't affect much of anything golf wise. The forecast is for a touch of rain latter in the day so all in all a good day for golf. We'll see you out there.

Nature's early Christmas gift to us here at Pheasant Glen was a bit of rain and mild overnight temperatures. With the greens thawed out the entire course will be open today until 3:00.
May Santa be good to you (and to me - let's not forget about me) tonight. Merry Christmas!

A warm breeze with a temperature of 6c ..... almost seems like spring not Christmas. We'll take it. It looks like a great week with sunny skies all the way out to the weekend. It is a great week for golf for those who are done shopping and for those who aren't , well, you can start panicking soon. Enjoy your week and we'll see you out there.
Saturday, December 17, 2011
Another beautiful day to lead us into the week before Christmas. A round of golf before a panic-stricken shopping spree will have you acting just like certain members of the maintenance crew. Conditions are perfect today, so don't miss out on a bit of exercise. Enjoy your day.
Friday, December 16, 2011
A bit of rain and mild overnight temperature have been very kind to us. The entire golf course will be open today. We have only one temp to start the day, and even that may change by the time the first groups reach the back nine. The greens are being rolled and bunkers raked as we speak, so come on out and enjoy your round.
Thursday, December 15, 2011
There's been 8mm of rain overnight and the temperature is still 2c so there is no frost. There is a down side though. It hasn't been warm enough or rained enough to thaw out the greens as of yet. We will start on time but on temps. If it warms up and or rains more we should get the front nine greens open today. Patience is a virtue and also the word of the day.

With a light dusting of snow this morning the atmosphere around here is purely magical. One can almost see the elves busily getting ready for Santa's big run. ( If you believe that we have a bridge to sell you ). According to the radar the snow and rain is over for the time being, now we have to wait for the snow to melt to get the course open. That will be sooner if it starts to rain and latter if it keeps snowing. Winter, bah humbug. Check back for updates.
Monday, December 12, 2011
-3c this morning with heavy frost...it is a good chance today to catch up on your sleep and or just about anything else other than golf this morning. The skies are clear so the sun should melt the frost around the same time as it usually does ( 11:00ish ). We will be on temps when we do start and will move to regular greens as soon as the greens thaw out. There are some nice gift ideas in the pro-shop in case your not done Christmas shopping so come out and finish off your holiday shopping. We'll see you out there.
Sunday, December 11, 2011
The cloud cover at this time of year is a blessing if you have anything to do with golf. There should be no frost this morning if the cloud cover stays. All bets are off though, if the skies clear because then the temperature will certainly drop and frost may form. As of now we are expecting a normal start with the front nine greens open. The back nine should of had time to thaw out and we'll open it as soon as possible. Enjoy your round of golf today and we'll see you out there.
Saturday, December 10, 2011
It would be nice if the temperature would stop dropping. Check back around 10:30 for the latest (hopefully positive) news.
Since I arrived here this morning the clouds have moved on and the temperature has dropped accordingly. If you're a fan of frost you'll be happy to know that it is settling in nicely. We golfers and maintenance workers, however, are not so thrilled. There's a chance that a few of the greens may open up later in the day, but for the moment that is only hearsay and shouldn't be taken as gospel. Check back for an update on the frost at 9:00 or so; we should have a better idea then of what the day will bring us.
Friday, December 9, 2011
It was closer to 11:00 by the time we got going on temps yesterday, and today looks (and feels) about the same. Lots of time for a big breakfast and some Christmas shopping in the morning.
Thursday, December 8, 2011
Is there really a commentator's curse?? I know it works when golf commentators comment on how well a golfer putts, hits greens, etc. the shot never comes off as it should. I guess if it works for a comment on frost free days maybe it will work on frosty mornings as well. We shall see!!! There will be a delay in the start time this morning. Don't get too excited until around ( around ) 10:00 ish. Someone will update as we get closer to opening. We'll see you out there.
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
Could this be a record for the greatest number of days without a frost delay at this time of year? I think it might, though I don't keep that sort of information on record so I don't really know. Today looks like it's going to be a carbon copy of yesterday, so it will be a good day to come golfing and forget all about your Christmas stresses for awhile. The course is dry and the greens are fast. I hear by the grapevine that there are lots of birdies for the taking so come prepared. We'll see you out there.

Sunday, December 4, 2011
Wouldn't it be nice if this was typical winter weather. A balmy 5c this morning with a promise of sunshine mixed in with cloudy periods bodes well for a great golf day. The course is in summer condition with the front nine fairways cut and the rest of the course in the process of being cut. Remember, layers is the key when planning your golf attire, you don't want to overheat in the warm weather. There are lots of birdies out there so plan accordingly. We'll see you out there.
Saturday, December 3, 2011
Once again, no frost to start the day. If the clouds hang around for an hour or two we'll be able to start on time. Enjoy the day.
Friday, December 2, 2011
If I may take a blogger's shortcut, please see yesterday's post for accurate information about today. Another beautiful day with no delay on start times. Have fun.
Thursday, December 1, 2011
It looks like the wonderful day yesterday is going to be followed up with another wonderful day today. It might not get as hot today so everyone plan your apparel for the day with care ( layers, layers, layers). So far the start should be on time as there is some cloud cover but if it clears off and frosts over the delay won't be long. Play well and we'll see you out there.

Monday, November 28, 2011
The rain that was showing on the radar hasn't dropped down this far as of yet so the course is still white with frost, sooo the start time will be delayed. With these cold temperatures and cloudy skies the frost will not move too fast so an 11:00 am start will likely be in order. We'll update as soon as there is some movement to the frost.
Sunday, November 27, 2011
What the .....???? Go away for a few days and all he-- breaks loose. We had another inch and a half ( 40mm ) of rain overnight so the word of the day is 'soggy'. The rainfall warning is still in effect but is forecast to abate latter this morning. The temperature is a nice 10c so there is something positive about this storm. Enjoy the football on tv today and have a great day.
Saturday, November 26, 2011
Some light rain is currently being blown sideways at 56 km/hr at Pheasant Glen, and more of the same is expected for the day. That's all I have to say about that. Enjoy your day.
Friday, November 25, 2011
The frost hasn't lifted enough for play yet. The front nine will open on temporary greens, likely around 11:00.
The cold air settled in while the course was draining off yesterday's rain, so everything is frozen solid this morning. Check back in around 10:00 for an update on conditions.
Thursday, November 24, 2011
Perhaps not the best conditions for golf today: wet and windy is what we're in for. Best of luck to the brave souls who can't say no to a tee time.
Wednesday, November 23, 2011
Another half-inch of rain last night has left a few puddles out on the course; however, it also thawed the greens, so who's complaining? All greens are open today and we will start on time. Enjoy your day.
Tuesday, November 22, 2011
Ugh. Two inches of rain overnight doesn't make for a pleasant morning at the golf course. For those with structurally sound galoshes the driving range and front nine will be open today. The rain has helped to thaw the greens, but they are still very soft and will need to drain completely before we are able to open them for play. We'll likely be on temps for the day, hopefully opening them up for play tomorrow.
Monday, November 21, 2011
Wind warning....Snowfall warning.....Rainfall warning. Is Environment Canada trying to tell us something??? The ground didn't thaw out yesterday so any precipitation will be pooling on the surface today so opening on temps. might not even happen. Wednesday looks like a decent day for golf. Enjoy whatever you do today.
Sunday, November 20, 2011
-5c ....our friends in the prairie provinces would laugh at us for complaining about the cold weather but then they don't have the damp cold we have here and don't realize how much hardship we endure with the damp weather. With this temperature it will be iffy at best if we open today. Check back around 11:00 am for an update. There is a wind warning for latter in the day as well as a snowfall warning for this evening so maybe a bit of warmth will precede this storm and the course will thaw out. 'Later'.
Saturday, November 19, 2011
Wow! -1 on the in this morning. As posted earlier there is a ton of frost and it appears the greens will not open today. I will keep you posted as to when and if we are able to get anything going. I would head to the grocery store and get some snacks and find a comfy spot on the couch to watch the Presidents Cup singles matches starting at 3:00pm.
Allow me to state the obvious: we have plenty of frost. And, with a high of 3 entire degrees today, we'll be lucky to get out there before noon if at all. The freezing temperature set in early last night, so temps will likely be the targets for anyone who braves the chill.
Friday, November 18, 2011
For some reason the golf course has yet to receive the snow that the surrounding areas have this morning. It is getting colder, however, so we'll take it as it comes. The front nine will be open today, starting on temps. So far it looks like we will start on time, but the back nine greens will likely remain closed. Dress warmly!
Thursday, November 17, 2011
Well, that wasn't a very nice day yesterday. Today is forecast for a better day with just a chance of a shower or two this afternoon with a warm southern breeze at 20 kph. Be careful on the roads this morning as the rain that we had yesterday froze on the roads and it is very slippery. We'll see you out there.
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
There is a wind warning forecast for this morning along with some showers/rain. It could be a challenging day on the golf course. For the adventurous golfers we should start on time as the temperature is 4c and the breeze ( gale ) is out of the southeast ( surprise, surprise, surprise ). Enjoy whatever you do today and maybe we'll see you out there.

Sunday, November 13, 2011
The thermometer shows -1c so there is no need to remind everyone that there will be a frost delay this morning and that the start times will probably be 10:30ish. The satellite shows there are some clouds, coming from Alaska, heading our way so hopefully they get here early enough to affect the frost in a positive way. The next few days are forecast for sunny and fairly warm conditions so get out this week and play some fall golf. We'll see you out there.
Saturday, November 12, 2011
Yesterday's wind seems to have blown away any warm air this morning. There's a bit of patchy frost out there but it doesn't look like start times will be have to be pushed back. Heck, even the rain hasn't arrived yet. Not bad for a chilly November morning. Enjoy your day.
Saturday, November 5, 2011
After looking at the sky and the thermometer I was able to count a few more stars than degrees. You guessed it: frost. If things continue as they have been lately we'll likely get started shortly after 10:00. Lots of time for stretching and coffee. Enjoy your day.
Friday, November 4, 2011
Wonders never cease: the cloud cover has kept the frost away and even raised the temperature a bit. There will be no delay in start times this morning, so come on out and enjoy the day.
The cloud cover has kept the frost at bay so far this morning; however, the temperature is dropping and will continue to do so for a while yet. We'll play this one by ear and update the blog as the morning pans out, but I suspect we'll be in for a rude and icy awakening shortly.
Thursday, November 3, 2011
The temperature is dropping like a stone, well a small stone, well a pebble, well a small pebble, well it is dropping!.!? There will be frost this morning so the start time will be delayed. I have noticed that we have a couple of greens with anger damage on them. That is pieces of turf gouged out , I'm assuming with a putter after missing a putt. I hope that the other golfers in the group with the offending golfer let it be known that such action will not be tolerated and if it happens again will turn the culprit in to the pro-shop. If we, ( we being fellow golfers ) can police ourselves on this and stop the angry golfer from doing damage to the greens we all benefit from the better conditions. Thanks. Enjoy your day and we'll see you out there.
Wednesday, November 2, 2011
The forecast is for showers this morning. The temperature is a nice 6c with a bit of a breeze so the start will be on time today. The snow birds are leaving daily now so if I don't see you before you go please travel safely and have a wonderful winter. We will be here to welcome you back in the spring. Enjoy your day and we'll see you out there.
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
Clear skies this morning....everyone knows by now what that means...its a good morning for star gazing. The big dipper looks like it is pouring out whatever contents it contains. It is amazing how much it moves over the course of a night. No wonder the ancients thought we were the center of the universe with everything spinning around us. When the frost leaves ( 10:00ish ) it will be a great day for a round of golf. We'll see you out there.
Monday, October 31, 2011
3c this morning which means there is frost on the golf course. It has been melting off around 10:00 these last few days so that will be a good time to shoot for, for a start time. Have a happy Halloween and try not scare too many kids tonight. Just to let you know, most of the grounds crew aren't allergic to chocolate. We'll see you out there.
Sunday, October 30, 2011
According to the radar the worst of the weather has passed and it is going to be nice for a couple of days. The winds are fairly brisk this morning so it will make golfing interesting, to say the least. There is enough cloud cover to keep the frost away so we will start on time today. Enjoy your day and we'll see you out there.
Saturday, October 29, 2011
I think we need to stop trusting the weather channel. Yesterday we thought we were in for a decent day, but anyone who tried to golf in the morning would've sneered and accused us of optimism. Today won't be as wet; however, the frost has started to show up and it's only getting colder before the sun rises. A delay is likely unless the cloud cover stays and keeps the ground from freezing too much. Let's hope for the best, shall we?
Friday, October 28, 2011
It's a bit wet and windy at the course this morning, but that goes under 'pros' rather than 'cons' when the alternative is a frost delay. For now I'm just happy that we're able to start on time. Enjoy your day.
Thursday, October 27, 2011
0 c....I think that means we will have a clear start to the day. The rain event of yesterday was a laugh so maybe tomorrows event will be the same. There is frost this morning and it is thicker than the last few days so a 10:00ish start will be most likely. Come out and enjoy the sun today. We'll see you out there.
Wednesday, October 26, 2011
No rain so far...No snow so far...BUT,, it feels like either could happen at any time. The satellite photo shows that the precipitation event we are expecting is close, oh so close. The key word for the day is layers (no not hens ). Dress in layers today so that you can peel some off when the weather turns nice. We'll see you out there.
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Wow!!...three days in a row of the exact same weather. Frost..slight delay..sunny after..good golf..many birdies..birdie juice flowing...OK, OK, there is no ball game, so it is different today than the last two. Enjoy today as it might be the last dry day for a couple of days. What's in that birdie juice anyway? We'll see you out there.
Monday, October 24, 2011
It is much the same today as it was yesterday...clear skies with a touch of frost. The delay should be short if any as there is a bit of a breeze helping keep the frost under control. The start of the week looks good weather wise so make sure you take advantage and get a few games of golf in. We'll see you out there.
Sunday, October 23, 2011
The stars are twinkling bright this morning so all of us early risers know what that means at this time of the year. We have a touch of frost and I guess the only question is how long is it going to stick around? With the clear sun rise it usually burns off rather fast so there shouldn't be too long of a delay if any. It is always nice to play golf in the sunshine in the fall and winter so come out and enjoy a round today. We'll see you out there.
Saturday, October 22, 2011
To all of you early risers, don't let the liquid falling from the sky put you off a round of golf today. It looks to be a morning "precipitation event" followed by a mild, sunny afternoon at the course. Enjoy your day.

Tuesday, October 18, 2011
There is just a bit of frost this morning. When the sun hits, it shouldn't take long to disappear. We are aerating the fairways as some of you might of noticed so keep an eye out for us. The equipment that we use is slow and cumbersome to move out of the way so we ask that you either wait for us to pass or you could move your ball and play around us. The cleanup of the cores is working really well as you can hardly tell we aerated when we're finished. Sorry for the inconvenience. The forecast is for warm weather into next week so come out and enjoy the good weather. We'll see you out there.
Monday, October 17, 2011
There is a bit of cloud cover this morning so the temperature is warmer than it was over the weekend so the good news is there is no frost today. Barring any unforeseen difficulties we will start on time. It looks like a couple of really good days for golf ahead so enjoy while we're able to.We'll see you out there.
Sunday, October 16, 2011
The 'F' word has surfaced again for another go around ( frost, silly ) . With the ground temperatures still fairly warm and the warmth of the sun it shouldn't be too long of a delay today if any. At this time of year it is hard to predict when the frost will arrive and when it will leave so a bit of patience goes a long way. Enjoy your day and we'll see you out there.
Saturday, October 15, 2011
FROST!
Is it that time of year already? Today marks the arrival of the season's first officially frosty morning. Without any clouds in the sky, though, the sun should burn it off pretty quickly. Let's hope it doesn't push back any tee times because it looks like the rest of the day will be as good as it gets for Oct.15. Have fun.
Sunday, September 18, 2011
It looks like the great summer weather that we have been enjoying for the last couple of months ( 8 weeks, 1 day, 8 hrs, 47min., ) or so has come to an end. So does the day ahead look like a good day for a game of golf? Most definitely! The day is not going to be as good as the days a week ago but will be better than the days a week from now. Come on out and capture a few fall birdies. They are supposedly only surpassed by winter birdies and those are a long ways away yet. We'll see you out there.

The Blog Days Of Summer
It looks as though the blog has taken a bit of a holiday in the busy days of summer. With golfing weather like this, though, that's not surprising. And it doesn't look like the sun is going anywhere soon. The forecast -- as if you didn't know this already! -- is calling for warm and maybe even hot weather for the rest of the week. Enjoy it while it lasts!
By the way, rumour has it that Gord has offered a parking spot, a new set of golf clubs, and a foot massage to the first keen-eyed viewer who can tell him from which green the above picture was taken.
Disclaimer: It's only a rumour.
Saturday, August 20, 2011
And so it begins! Good luck to all participants in the Pheasant Glen Club Championship this weekend. Is it the parking spot? The bragging rights? Both?? Whatever fuels your desire, have a great time out there.

What a brilliant full moon this morning. A person could almost golf it is so bright ( don't even think about it!! ). The week looks positively perfect for golf with sunshine and light winds forecast. I think they have the weekend wrong so wait for the updated forecast latter in the week for the right one. The course is playing easier than last week so take your birdies early and often ( you might need a re-fill ladies ). We'll see you out there.
Sunday, August 14, 2011
Alas, today has to come. Today is the first day of tee times starting latter ( 7:30 a.m.). Everyone knows that latter tee times means that summer, such as it is, is on the wane and fall is close at hand . If mother nature is at all fair we should get a winter of no winter to go along with the summer of no summer. I for one am voting for that. I see a few more players practicing longer than normal which means that the club championship is also approaching ( another sign of the end of summer )so I hope lots of people sign up for the tournament on the weekend. Play well everyone and we'll see you out there.

Summer Continues...
With the great weather continuing, the golf course is playing fantastic. As a reminder, booking two weeks out today and tomorrow, there are limited tee times in the morning to make way for the club championship. Tee times will start 8:00am each day. Which leads nicely to the next topic - CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Aug 20-21. Sign up in the golf shop. Entry is $30. Tee times start at 11am each day.
Enjoy the day!
Enjoy the day!

Saturday, July 30, 2011
It looks to be another great day at the golf course. Sunny with only a slight chance of an afternoon shower here and there. Let's hope it's more there than here. Play well and enjoy your round.
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
Is the sight of the white raven good luck or an omen of bogies to come? With some of the mumbling I've been hearing lately it is not the former that's for sure. There are birdies out there as I witnessed some of the ladies celebrating the taking of one on the tenth tee yesterday. Play well and we'll see you out there.
Monday, July 25, 2011
Another extremely hot day coming up (24c). I hope this heatwave doesn't last too too long. The long range is for warm temps for the next two weeks ( 20c-22c ) and total, well maybe not total, mostly, well maybe partial, sunshine for the entire forecast period. Celebrate your birdies and forget your bogies and you'll enjoy your round a lot more. We'll see you out there.
Sunday, July 24, 2011
It looks like the Pro's playing the Canadian Open are having sooo much fun playing Shaughnessy that we might have to let our rough grow so we can have fun like they are. It warms my heart to hear the praises of the golf course, from the TV commentators, about a course from BC. The rest of North America will now be aware, as we already know, that there are good courses here in BC. By the way I was just joking about letting the rough grow. The week looks great for golf so enjoy and follow the lead of the women's club and celebrate your birdies. We'll see you out there.
Saturday, July 23, 2011
You may not believe this, but sometimes I'm happy to arrive here before the sun has even come up. As dawn broke this morning the moon was bright, the deer were staying off the greens, and I think a bat actually nodded and said, "Mornin'". I was very tired, admittedly.
For those of you who are more interested in golf than talking nocturnal animals, the weather is finally starting to cooperate a bit more. We should have a relatively warm day today and a great week to follow. If the guy moving the pins would stop talking to the wildlife there may even be a few birdies to be found out there. Have fun.

YIKES!!!! Just a bit of a shower yesterday afternoon !@#$%.... Almost 20mm of rain fell so there is some standing water still on the course but if the sun shines today it should all disappear by tomorrow. The greens will be receptive so birdies will be plentiful. Have fun and we'll see you out there.

British Open (weather)
Ahh. The British Open. Golf's oldest major championship. Known for its wet and windy deluges and nasty fescue waiting for an errant shot. Hmm. Sounds familiar doesn't it?
On the positive side, 30% chance of no rain today.
WeatherSof Golf Glove SALE: $16.95 or (2) for $24.95

If it's of any consolation, today's forecasted showers look to be the last in this week's string of them. I'm sure I'll see the most committed of you out on the course today anyway, but the fair-weather golfers will at least have the British Open to watch from the comfort of their dry living rooms. The course has already dried up considerably since the deluge of the other day, so conditions will be great no matter when you tee off. Have fun.

Can it be true???..another red-eared slider in the pond on #13 ??...everyone keep a sharp eye out and lets confirm said rumor. The week coming up looks like we could get some cloudy periods ( not too hot ), should be great for golfing. Congrats to the junior golfers from here that competed in the BC Junior tournament in Trail last week, a fine showing by all with a tie for 6th by Greg Palmer to lead the way. It is great to see such a strong showing from Pheasant Glen to have so many qualify for this provincial event. Play well and we'll see you out there.

An Amazing Day at PG
Golf as it is meant to be played. We've had enough practice playing and swinging wrapped in layers this year, now we can enjoy the full beauty of Island golf. Perfect conditions today. There are still some good tee-times spread throughout the day, so, if you are at all inclined, take advantage and tee it up.

It looks like we're at the start of a few Goldilocks days at Pheasant Glen: not too hot, not too cold...juuust right. And if the perfect golf conditions aren't enough to satisfy you there's always spot-the-red-eared-slider to play. We all thought a certain blogger was hallucinating, but there is indeed a turtle surrounded by a throng of bullfrogs on #18. How it got there is anyone's guess, but I assume it hitched a ride with the platypus recently seen on #4. Enjoy your day.

Just another great day for golf. The forecast is for a slight chance of thunder showers (40%) and seeing that we just don't get thunder and lightening storms that often I would remind everyone that if there is a storm in the area to seek immediate shelter (in the restaurant). We are lucky here on the Island in that our storms aren't severe but it pays to be cautious. The greens are giving up a lot of birdies these days so come out and get your fair share. We'll see you out there.

Men's Morning
The Men's club is welcoming the heat of the summer this morning. Yes, summer has arrived. No joking this time - sunblock has been the topical jest of many a blogster this year but as of now it is actually recommended. Since I personally burn in about 12 minutes I prefer sunblock rated over 60+ with titanium blockers and super UV inhibitors, which can basically withstand the flash of a supernova. Although we don't carry that particular concoction in the golf shop, we do have the hands-free sunblock available which also works nicely.
The BC Junior Boys are playing the Provincial Championship in Rossland-Trail this week. Brayden Erikson, Matt Haddad, Brett Saremba, Luigi Trozzo, Greg Palmer and Connor Moore are contending for the title. Round 2 goes today with the defending champion Adam Svensson is leading the way at 5-under.
JUNIOR FUN EVENT: Saturday 9th at 3:30pm. Please sign up in the golf shop before Friday 12noon, to confirm your entry. Currently we have less than 4 players so we need players to fill the event!

I came across an interesting article the other day introducing the Tee It Forward Initiative. The program is to encourage golfers to play the tees best suited to their playing ability based on the distance they drive the ball. Barney Adams, the founder of Adams Golf, is credited with the concept that led to the development of the Tee It Forward Initiative. His research determined that the 6700 yd. course length that many amateur golfers select is proportionately equivalent to a PGA tour player competing on a course measuring 8100 yds. Here is the chart provided by the USGA and PGA of America to use as a guideline to help match their driving distance with the length of course best suited to their game.
Driver Distance--- Recommended 18 hole yardages
Tour Pro---7600-7900
300---7150-7400
275--- 6700-6900
250--- 6200-6400

Another day of sunshine!!....when is this heatwave going to end??. Thursday you say?...great..I hope it rains soon so we can get back to normal...the ball is flying and rolling way to far. Its hard to play when conditions are like this. It is times like these that our Canadian resolve to persevere in whatever hardships we are faced with bonds us all together. Brave on and we'll see you out there.
Sunday, July 3, 2011
I hope everyone enjoyed Canada Day and got to partake in all the festivities. The course is in summer condition even though the weather is lagging a couple of weeks. It looks like a great week of weather coming so there are no excuses left not to come out and play a round of golf. Play well and we'll see you out there.
Friday, July 1, 2011
Happy Day, fellow Canadians. Congratulations on 144 years of officially being ourselves. I suppose we could be jealous that our Commonwealth cousins (Kate and William, for anyone off the radar) are coming no closer to us than the Calgary Stampede, but we’re about to embark on a very pleasant Friday as far as golf is concerned, so any and all negativity will surely be offset by a great course and a dry forecast. Mainly sunny with a high of 19 doesn’t exactly reek of summer but it has very little to do with winter, fall or even most of a usual spring. We’re definitely on the right track.
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
What a great part of the country we live in, rain all around us yesterday and we didn't receive a drop. Don't tell anyone they might want to move here. Just some high clouds forecast for today, nothing to worry about. The course is playing easy so there should be loads of birdies carded today. Play well and we'll see you out there.

Canada Day scramble
Look at all the red!!! Canada Day scramble yesterday was a huge success. 72 players came out to enjoy the sunshine and a great golf course. Gerry Gessler was the big winner in the putting contest grabbing the $180 first prize and the winning team shooting 61 was Brian and Chris Zamisky, Catherine Morris and Dennis Finnan.
It must of been 'coming out day' for all the fawns on Thurs. I counted 8 on the back 9, with some singles and a couple sets of twins. There is also a single runt ( yearling ) that is hanging around the back 9 and one wonders if that is the same one that was orphaned last year. Stranger things have happened. Also an alert golfer has noticed a robin with unique markings on the back 9 as well. Keep a sharp eye out for that one. The forecast is for just a chance of a shower or two on Mon. and Tues., other than that the week looks like is going to be sunny ( not too warm ). Play well and we'll see you out there.
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
A turtle in the pond on the left of 18. ( red-eared slider ) Another turtle was sighted in the lake on 13, which has yet to be identified. My, it sure has been sunny and warm these last couple of days and the rest of the week is to be a continuation of the same. According to the calendar the first day of summer starts today, as if we didn't know that by the weather we're having!! Play well today, as I'm told there are a lot of birdies out there waiting for the right player. See you out there.
Sunday, June 19, 2011
Red-eared slider????...anyone????? The answer to come. Just enough cloud cover today to make the day bearable. Too much sunshine can cause, oh, I don't know, an overly optimistic view of life in general and just lead to deep depression come late summer and early fall. We wouldn't want that! A happy fathers day to all fathers out there and I hope you have a great round of golf today. See you out there.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS Golf Tournament
Today we are hosting the Special Olympics Golf Tournament. It is a 1:30 shotgun off the front nine. There are still a few select tee times available today so call in if you are interested in coming out to play.
Can Rory hang on? Going into the third round of the US Open, young Rory McIlroy has a commanding lead in the year's second major. He is sitting at 11 under after firing 65-66 the first two days. Only Y.E. Yang can see a bit of leader running away with second at 5 under. A host of players are at -2. Should be a good weekend to keep an eye on some record setting moments.
To discourage the potential golf shop looters in the aforementioned blog, we do have some discounted merchandise: Srixon balls (1) dozen for only $20.86 plus tax. That's cheaper than most used balls! Callaway shoes are still 25% off. If you are looking for something for dad, there is some great new Dwyers & Co. clothing that looks and feels great. Just ask our golf shop staff, they are looking particularly stylish these days.
Have a good one.

So, who brought the rain? What if our golf games don't go well and we choose to "celebrate" by lighting cars on fire? Won't the rain put out the flames? It doesn't seem fair that enthusiasm can be so easily extinguished. I guess there's always the pro shop to loot, but I digress...
All of you golfers/arsonists will be happy to know that the rain is now a drizzle and should taper off completely by around 8:00, according to the powers that be. From then on it looks to be a beautiful day turning into a beautiful week. Enjoy your golf.

My,My,My,My..My, we must be special. We received a spot of precipitation overnight just in time to halt the moisture loss, due to the extreme heat. Clean living has its benefits. Nothing but sun again today...another day in paradise. Oh by the way, I think there is a hockey game on tonight that might be of interest. Someone said it is a special game so it might be worth trying to find the channel it is on and watching a few minutes. The course is set up for a ton of birdies today so come on out and get your fair share. We'll see you out there.
Tuesday, June 14, 2011
The good news is we get to watch one more hockey game this season. And more good news ...there are no goalie issues in Canuck land. Rest up for the next couple of days and prepare for the opening faceoff on Wed. night as I'm certain it will be a barn burner. Just a few showers passing through this afternoon so the day will be good for golf ( not too hot ). Stay out of the long stuff and we'll see you out there.

I guess I should welcome a number of people, including myself, back onto the Canucks bandwagon after last night's game. Having said that, it would almost be nice if they lost the next one so we could see a game 7 in Vancouver.
Note to self: this is not an NHL blog. With that in mind, I hope the showers in Parksville stay in Parksville and leave us with a nice day for golf. Keep your heads up, finish your checks and enjoy your day.

This is the time of the year for all the deer on the property to start having their young ones. If you see a fawn ( young deer ) laying in the grass not moving, don't be alarmed. That is how they hide from predators and usually the mother has just gone off to eat (or maybe have a nap). There has also been sightings of a turtle in the pond off the left of eighteen. We have yet to determine the species. Keep a watchful eye around and you might see a 'National Geographic' moment out there. Play well and we'll see you out there.
Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Whats to say today?? After the collective groan heard around the province last night I just assumed the Canucks lost. Next game will be different, we all hope. Today is a great day for golf, not too hot. As everyone has noticed the grass is growing nicely. Don't hit it in the long stuff. Enjoy whatever you do today.

With a sunny high of 22 AND a Canucks game tonight this could very well be the Saturday that all others aspire to be. And tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. Could Spring have finally arrived just in time for Summer? Let's hope so. Have a great round, you golfers; have a great game, you Canucks.
Thursday, June 2, 2011
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Its raining.!@#!@#. Just a light shower passing through the area this morning. The weekend looks like it's going to be scorcher so this rain is a blessing in disguise. Bring the sunscreen for the afternoon. By the way, who won the hockey game last night?? HEE HEE HEE. See you out there.
Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Just because the Canucks are playing tonight is no reason to not play golf today. The forecasted rain might hold off so come on out and get some exercise before the game. I had a chance to talk to golf course personnel from across the province the last couple of days and the cold weather has affected everyone. No growth and poor recovery everywhere. Up to a month latter than normal in some places. This is the first morning we have had temperatures in the double digits so maybe spring has finally arrived. Play well and we'll see you out there.
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Well, unless "the green men" decide to come out and scare the sun away we may actually have a 21 degree day, believe it or not. It should be a perfect day to play a round and have lunch on the new deck. Have fun out there.

The rain looks to be over for now. There is a front coming from the south-east that might hit us latter today, again, might being the operative word. It sure would be nice to see a quadruple overtime in Boston tomorrow night. Saturday is going to be a warm and sunny day, exactly what is ordered for the first members event of the year. Make sure you sign up so you don't miss the fun. Have a great day and we'll see you out there.
Wednesday, May 25, 2011
It looks like there is a front coming up from the south that is going to bring a couple of showers this afternoon. Everyone knows how unreliable forecasts are for showers. Don't waste too much sunscreen this morning, you'll need it latter in the week. Too bad the Sedins aren't playing that good and Luongo?? isn't that good of a goalie. Have a fun day and we'll see you out there.
Monday, May 23, 2011
There is just a small shower going through the area now, then cloudy periods this morning and sunny periods this afternoon. Not exactly what everyone wants for their holiday Monday but it could be worse. On the bright side, the sun screen supply isn't being used up. Play well and we will see you out there.
Sunday, May 22, 2011

Mother Nature must be easing us into the warm season with only a few sunny days at a time. How very thoughtful? Just a few showers forecast for today, however, so we won't complain too loudly. Unless, of course, we're discussing the Canucks game last night. Sigh...sigh...sigh....
Ok, enough lamenting. Time to cut the greens. Enjoy your day.

The grounds crew are awake early enough to experience a bit of early morning frost, believe it or not, but by the time the golfers arrive the sun will be doing its job. It looks to be another beautiful day in the sunshine: 19 degrees with the odd cloud to give the blue sky a bit of character. Enjoy the course and have a great round.
Thursday, May 19, 2011
Sun is out. Course looks fantastic. Don't want to get too carried away, but can we say that it looks like Spring is here? Nearing 20 degrees today. Finally, global warming is taking over...

Some more west coast sunshine today. Just showers forecast so we could be lucky and not see anything. The accumulations for yesterday and overnight were just over .33 of an inch (8.25mm) so the course is just a tad wet in spots. It will still be a good day for a round of golf. Enjoy yourself and we'll see you out there.
Sunday, May 15, 2011
What the heck was that??!!?? An inch ( 25mm ) of rain overnight??!!?? Someone thinks that just because the Canucks are still playing hockey it must be the middle of winter, so let it rain. We have standing water this morning and how fast it disappears will depend on how much rain we get during the rest of today. The greens are still good so if we don't get any more heavy rain the course will play a bit long but still playable. Enjoy whatever you do today.
Thursday, May 12, 2011
3c and light rain...a common occurrence in winter...not to common in the middle of May. Clean living I guess, yes we are just lucky because of clean living. It is supposed to be somewhat sunny today so pack up your sticks and come out and play a round. The fresh air will do you good. See you out there.

So far so good with the rain. Nothing yet. Maybe we'll go the whole day again, without any rain. The Callaway fitting van was here yesterday but I didn't see too many people trying the latest products. These are good opportunities to try out the newest clubs so don't be shy about using the expertise of the company reps to keep up to date on the tools of our favorite game. I think the Ping van is here today ( check with the pro shop ). Enjoy your day.

It looks like a bit of precipitation for the next couple of days. Living in the protection of Mt. Aerosmith the accumulated totals are always lower than the forecasters predict. We are just lucky I guess. Hockey fans aren't noticing the weather today anyway, it's just a beautiful day for Canuck fans. Enjoy whatever you do today.

Sunday, May 8, 2011
Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there. We have ordered a nice sunny day for you so come out and enjoy a round of golf. All Canuck fans need a break from the tensions of playoff hockey and the serenity of the golf course will provide some respite from said tensions. ( a win would also work ) Have a great day and I'll see you out there.

Loss of a Golf Legend
I know some of you reading this may be tempted to call me and insist you are still alive and kicking. The legend I am referring to is the Spanish genius Seve Ballesteros, who past away early today. The passionate conquistador was known for his vibrant style and unfailing resolve. Of his many magical moments, the one I remember this second is his recovery from the car park in the British Open. It gave hope to all golfers that you can hit it all over God's creation and still enjoy the game. In that spirit, enjoy the course and your game today.

Whoever wrote yesterday's blog must have too much faith in the weather network. Light rain all day? There wasn't a drop until 1 pm! Personally, I no longer believe that today's "cloudy with showers" should be taken seriously.
Today's reality is as follows: It's going to be dry. It's going to be mild. The Canucks are going to win the series tonight. The greens have been cut and rolled and the course is playing great. Have fun.

I'm happy to report there isn't a hint of frost on the course, but when it's the first week of May you sort of expect that kind of thing. I guess you also expect there to be rain now and then, and today looks to be one of those days. The forecast is for light rain to start at the same time the first group tees off, and to hang around long after said group has packed up and headed home. Oh well, it's LIGHT rain. Could be worse.

Just a few scattered showers this morning. Just enough cloud cover to keep it kind of mild (?!@?). According to the long range weatherman/woman/child it is going to be a good couple of weeks to watch the playoffs. Maybe the weather will warm up the same time as the Canucks do. Remember everyday is a good day to golf. See you out there.
Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Can it be ??? A clear night and no frost? This could be the true sign of summer. We will see as daybreak arrives. The cold weather has kept the growth of the grass to a snails pace and that is why the greens haven't totally healed from aeration as of yet and the fairways slow to recover as well. What we need is warm temperatures (+10c) overnight to achieve good growth. I guess mother nature marches to the beat of her own drum and we just follow along. Enjoy your day.
Tuesday, May 3, 2011
One of these days I won't pass along the forecast for the weather because summer will be here and there will be nothing but good weather, but not today. Just kidding....today is going to be a great day for golf, sunny and not too hot. It sounds like the same percentage of people vote as those who fix ball marks, replace divots and rake bunkers. Funny how that works. Enjoy your day and see you out there.

Congratulations to Junior Member Brayden Eriksen for his victory yesterday in the Arbutus Ridge Mens Open. Brayden shot 2 under 68 on Saturday to take a one shot lead into Sunday's final round. After a bogey on the opening hole he settled in making two birdies and fifteen pars to shoot a final round 69 to win by one stroke. Assistant Professional Adam Haddad also played shooting 75, 74 and won $240.00.
There are showers passing through the area this morning and the afternoon is supposed to be a little drier. Due to the cloud cover we will start on time this morning ( no frost ) . The presence of ball marks on the greens is down considerably from aerations past so a big thanks to everyone for a great job in repairing said marks and keep up the good work. Enjoy your day. See you out there.
Sunday, May 1, 2011
Clear and cold.....frost. There will likely be a delay in the start this morning, but the sun is going to shine so it shouldn't be too long. This should allow a bit more rest for those who stayed up late watching the hockey game. The rest of the week is the same as last week, showers etc., enjoy the sunshine when you can. See you out there.

The sun's immaculate timing has put us back on schedule after a frosty morning. No delays today - just sunshine. Enjoy the day.
It's a familiar scene out there: clear skies and a bit chilly. The temperature will drop some more before the day begins, so we can expect a bit of frost. With any luck, though, it will melt off by 7:29 like it did yesterday, getting the first groups out on time. Have fun
Friday, April 29, 2011
The frost has come and gone, so no delay on start times at all. Come on out and enjoy the sun.
Clear skies and hardly any frost? Come on. Next you're going to tell me the Canucks are up 1-0 in the second round of the playoffs.
Alright, we shouldn't get too carried away just yet. There are seven games to a series, after all, and it is pretty chilly on the course. In the spirit of winning, however, let's assume we will start on time today. Nothing but sunshine for the next couple of days, so we're free to enjoy golf during the day and hockey at night. 'Tis the season for sports fans.

It looks like another shower filled day. Spring, go figure. At least the temperatures aren't going to be too hot so we won't wilt in the humidity. The start will be on time. Who and when do the Canucks play next? I hope it is a little more exciting than the boring series they just finished. Yawn. See you out there.

Saturday, April 23, 2011
As Mark mentioned this morning, there will be a fost delay. The sun is up early which is good but it doesn't look like we will start much before 8:00am if not closer to 8:30am. The greens are healing nicely from aeration and the rest of the course has been mowed and is in great shape.
Happy Easter Weekend!!!
Happy Easter Weekend!!!
It's a balmy ZERO here at Pheasant Glen. However, this very cold morning will be offset by what looks to be the warmest afternoon of the year. If all predictions hold true it should be sunny and 15 degrees this afternoon, so take advantage of it while it lasts. Obviously, the ZERO means a frost delay, but at this time of year the delays aren't too long. An extra coffee and a few stretches never hurt anyone. Have fun
Friday, April 22, 2011
Given the rain we had on Tuesday the aeration went extremely well and will certainly pay off during the season. Unfortunately, we woke up to some post-aeration frost this morning. At this point it's hard to say if it will hang around long enough to delay our start, so keep in touch with the pro shop if you have an early tee time. Have fun
Thursday, April 21, 2011
Yesterday didn't quite turn out as we had hoped but today is going to be just dandy. We will finish aerating today. Even though the rain held us up yesterday, the front nine will be open for play this morning. Tom Watson shot a 59 on his home course in Kansas just after the greens were aerated so there are no excuses for bad scores today. See you out there.

Junior Member Orientation
The weather looks a bit messy today, but the orientation is still on. We will cover some of the club expectations, start with an introduction on the lesson tee and then finish hitting balls. The session should last about 45 minutes.
Thanks
Chris
Thanks
Chris
Clear and cold this morning....frost...delays.....what ...??? It looks like sunny weather for the next couple of days so aerating should go well. Today we will do the front nine and tomorrow we will do the back. Now we need some warm weather to accelerate the growth and get the greens back to normal. Enjoy your day and stay warm.
Tuesday, April 19, 2011
Good morning, all. All 18 holes will be open for the first part of the day as we aerate the practice greens and academy. Later on today we will move to the front nine. Front nine will be closed Wednesday; back nine will be closed Thursday. A temporary interruption, but one that we'll all be thankful for as the season moves on. Enjoy the day

Light Frost
Our morning "friend" is lingering around again. Should produce only a short delay today.
Just a reminder: We will be starting to punch our greens today. Tentatively, starting with the practice greens today. Nine holes tomorrow, most likely later in the afternoon/evening, and the remainder on Wednesday. For the short time these conditions last, it helps produce the magnificent greens we've been putting on all year. Enjoy them today!

Saturday, April 16, 2011
It looks to be a carbon copy of yesterday morning. Perhaps a few more clouds right off the bat, but not enough to keep the frost away. Again, somewhere around 9 o'clock (give or take __)looks to be an approximate start time. Enjoy the day.
Friday, April 15, 2011
Say hello to the icy Ides of April. If I told you it was even above freezing right now I'd be lying to you, and I wouldn't want to do that. Our delay will likely be at least as long as yesterday's, so I assume we won't start until at least 9 o'clock.
Half of our springtime maintenance budget has already been spent on toques and long underwear, so some cutbacks have been necessary. Please have patience with us as we cut the grass with our newly acquired fairway mowers. At least we'll be warm?
Thursday, April 14, 2011
...and we're off!
After a short frost delay, the mowers have completed the first two greens and our lead group is on the tee and hitting toward the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Arrowsmith - covered in sn*w. Yes, like that other s-word golfers avoid uttering, sha*k. I won't even type either of them, not that I am superstitious - knock on wood. But I digress. C'mon out. The wind is down, the course is great, and the company...magnificent :) Canucks 1/16 (for those counting the wins until Vancouver hoists the Cup)...you know it will happen. Knock on wood. Chris
More balmy spring weather...cough.. We had a tenth of an inch of rain last night, which doesn't sound all that bad, but the skies cleared and in came the cold air. I'm sure you know what that means. Icy windshields on the way to work and frosty ground at the golf course. There will be a delay for those with early tee times; how long will depend on the big orange ball in the sky. Of course, if we're lucky(?) we may get an early shower to help us out with the frost.
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Apparently, there are some light showers expected today, but don't they always tell us that and then give us bitterly cold winds instead? I don't know which scenario I prefer; what I do know is that if Gord is reading this blog it's from a sunny beach in Hawaii where today it's going to be 25 degrees with a warm breeze. ARE YOU DOING ALRIGHT OVER THERE, GORD? JUST SO YOU KNOW, WE'LL BE STARTING ON TIME TODAY. SORRY YOU'RE NOT HERE TO SEE IT.
Tuesday, April 12, 2011
The sky is overcast but so far there hasn't been any rain to speak of. Only a few light showers are forecast for today, so don't let those stop you. I still can't get over Sunday at the Masters, myself. Four straight birdies to win?! The countdown to the next major is ON.
Monday, April 11, 2011
The rains didn't stay away as hoped yesterday, which allowed everyone the time to watch the Masters. Quite a feat to finish with 4 straight birdies. That is something for all to strive for at the Glen. No frost so far so the start should be on time. The forecast is for a sunny day. Light winds combined with receptive greens and sunny skies, who knows, are four straight birdies waiting out there for someone? See you out there.
Sunday, April 10, 2011
The rain has held off so far....can we be so lucky as to be missed altogether? Bring your umbrella just in case. We will start on time today. What is with the youngsters at the Masters, don't they know that the course has almost a religious air and is supposed to induce fear in all but the most experienced and battle hardened. Kids. Go figure. See you out there.
Saturday, April 9, 2011
Congratulations to Cory McIntosh who once again won the gross par points section of the Shootout today with 33 points. Mike Wilde won the net side with 39 points and there was a tie for 1st place in the team competition. With a combined total of 142 net par points were the teams of Brian Zamisky, Dennis Finnan, Don Gordon and Tony Marsland and the team of Ed Razzell, Mike Wilde, Harold Sparrow and David Hahn. Everyone enjoyed a great day, fast greens and an awesome roast beef dinner. The next Shootout will be Saturday, September 30th. We are taking registrations already.
Today looks to be the best day for golf in the near future, with showers expected to hold off until the afternoon/evening. At 6 degrees it already feels warmer than it has for the past few days. Not much warmer, mind you, but enough that we felt compelled to mention it. The greens will be rolled seventeen seconds from now, so come on out and play before the third round of the Masters steals your attention. Have fun.
Friday, April 8, 2011
Very clear skies this morning have brought on the frost, unfortunately. I guess the early part of today will be spent admiring the view of Mt. Arrowsmith and watching yesterday's Masters highlights. I doubt the delay will be too long once the sun comes up, but keep in touch with the pro shop if you have an early tee time. Dress warmly and enjoy.

MASTERS WEEK
As our early morning members tee off onto our own beautifully cut fairways, the titanium ring is echoed among the Georgia pines of Augusta National Golf Club as the PGA Tour kicks off the 2011 Masters. This prestigious event often marks the official start to the golf season, so obviously, the weather should naturally follow suit. Here's hoping... Quote of the Day:
"After all these years, it's still embarrassing for me to play on the American golf tour. Like the time I asked my caddie for a sand wedge and he came back ten minutes later with a ham on rye." Chi Chi Rodriguez

Tuesday, April 5, 2011
A cool start to the day today. There is just enough cloud cover to keep old Jack Frost away. The forecast seems a carbon copy of yesterday, which turned out all right. Welcome back ladies on your first ladies day of the year. We will start on time if conditions remain as predicted. Bring an umbrella, just in case the sun gets too hot. See you out there.
Monday, April 4, 2011
We seem to be lucky with missing the showers that are forecast. The rest of the day is a slight chance of light rain. No rain overnight. It surprises me how dry the fairways are after the deluge of rain we received in March. We will have them all cut today. Today is the start of what should be a good week for golf. See you out there.
Sunday, April 3, 2011
Clear skies and frost. A combination that leads to mixed emotions. We will be able to enjoy the sun while we wait for the frost to leave. The satellite shows a system coming out of the north west bringing some rain starting this afternoon. The weather channel says 10-15mm, lets hope they continue with their trend of 30% accuracy and the rain holds off. The start will be delayed until the sun does its work on the frost. At this time of year that is never too long. See you out there.
Saturday, April 2, 2011
Congratulations to the KSS High School gofl team for their victory yesterday. The team was lead by Brayden Eriksen with a 72 and Santiago Pozo with a 73. Visiting teams and coaches were envious of our fast and smooth greens. Many of them commented that we are the first course they have played that have cut fairways. It is starting to feel like Spring!
Copied and pasted directly from theweathernetwork.com: We don't expect any precipitation from Saturday Morning to Sunday Morning Unless they're a day late with an April Fool's Day joke it should be a pretty nice day for golf. Cloudy with sunny periods turning to sunny with cloudy periods. Most of the fairways have been cut this week, with the remaining soggy spots firming up day by day. It's a bit breezy out there right now, which should help dry out the course even more. With no frost and not a single unforeseen interruption, we will start on time.

KSS School Tournament 1pm shotgun
Under cloudy skies, and damp conditions, 70 players from Island high-schools are shooting it out honours. The course has been in good spring condition with the greens rolling fast and true. It will be a good test for these dapper young apprentices. Driving Range is currently closed for maintenance and will re-open at 4pm. Putting and chipping practice is the key today. - CHRIS
Well, we had a glimpse of summer weather yesterday but it seems like it was a bit of a tease. A few showers are rolling through this morning and some more are expected throughout the day. Not much accumulation is expected, though, so it shouldn't scare off any golfers who don't mind a bit of cloud overhead while they putt out. Enjoy the day
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Another spring morning.....frogs a croaking, birds a chirping, welcome to a new day in paradise. Just a bit over the top but, not by too much. A bit of a shower overnight, just enough to keep the dust down. It looks like sunny periods all day today ( the bright orb in the sky ) so another good day for golf , in fact the whole weekend looks dry so get some friends together and plan a day on the course. We will start on time today as there is just enough cloud cover to start the day off warm. See you out there.
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
Well the rain event didn't happen as forecast....I like it when they ( weather people ) make a mistake and it doesn't rain. Just a few showers forecast today, well actually, light rain all day. Maybe another erred forecast is in store. Less than 1mm of rain overnight so the course is in fact drying out. The start will be on time today. Enjoy whatever you do today, as long it is on the golf course.
Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Monday, March 28, 2011
We have a bit of frost this morning. That combined with the earlier start will likely mean a delay. The satellite picture shows that the front just off the coast is splitting somewhat and the brunt of the rain will pass north and south of us. That is the good news. The bad news is that there is another , bigger , front just behind this one so there will be rain this week. Spring time weather. Whatever you do today, enjoy.
Sunday, March 27, 2011
Clear skies this morning.....yes there is frost. The radar shows cloud cover and showers will be over us in an hour, so the start time should be close to normal. Today is forecast to be one of the better days this week so come out and enjoy a round of golf in relatively dry conditions. The Harrier hawks are back and the tree frogs are croaking so the fine weather of spring can't be too far away. March came in like a lion so should go out like a lamb ( right Hap ?? ). Enjoy your day.
Saturday, March 26, 2011
Another fine day for golf. Only a 30% chance of a brief afternoon shower, but it's the other 70% that we optimists look to when planning our tee times.
The greens are being rolled right now and we will start on time. Enjoy.

Friday, March 25, 2011
So far it looks to be very similar to the last few mornings out there. Chilly but no frost, and with only a chance of showers later in the day. The daytime high won't be quite as impressive as yesterday but we've got all summer for that sort of thing. It should be a good spring day for golf.
Thursday, March 24, 2011
No this is not just a copy of the last two days blogs, it really is chilly this morning with a risk of frost. Lets call it a spring forecast, cloudy periods with a chance of showers. Still not a bad day for golf. We should start on time if the cloud cover remains. We are getting busy so it is time to use tee times again. See you out there.
Wednesday, March 23, 2011
Tuesday, March 22, 2011
A chilly start to the day but no frost so far. If the cloud cover moves off the frost will raise it's ugly head and the start time will be delayed a bit. If the clouds stay we should be able to start on time. Now that is a definite maybe. It looks like a decent day for golf with just a few light showers forecast so enjoy your day. See you out there.
Monday, March 21, 2011
Sunday, March 20, 2011
Mother nature was kind enough to keep the skies clear long enough last night to have a great view of the super moon ( full moon very close to the earth ) yet provide cloud cover to prevent frost this morning. We will be able to start on time this morning barring any unforeseen difficulties. No rain forecast today so slather on the sunscreen and come out and enjoy a round of golf. See you out there.
Saturday, March 19, 2011
In the interest of staying positive, this morning's rain is supposed to taper off a bit later in the day, and there isn't a hint of frost. I think if I had the urge to punish a golf ball I'd tuck my pants into my socks and play a round. And believe me, after I hit the ball 147 times over 18 holes it would definitely feel punished.
Friday, March 18, 2011
Not a drop of rain overnight, no frost to speak of and not even enough dew to warrant tucking your pants into your socks! Yesterday's wind helped dry the course out quite a bit and it's getting better by the hour. Greens will be cut today and rolling smoothly as always. Come take advantage of the conditions in case we get some showers this afternoon.
Thursday, March 17, 2011
Clear skies overnight at this time of the year cause the old "f" word.....yes, frost. With the intermittent cloud cover it is yet unclear if we can start on time, closer to 9:30 is a better guess. Don't worry, the forecast is for light rain tomorrow so there will be no frost Fri. morning. We have had almost 8" ( 200mm ) of rain in March so far when our average rainfall for all of March is 3.5" ( 88mm ). That should explain the copious amounts of water laying about. The range, as well as the rest of the course, is draining as well as it can and should be able to open today barring any unforeseen difficulties. Play well.
Wednesday, March 16, 2011
What a relief to walk towards the Golf Shop and see more green then water this morning. Looks to be a good day. A reminder Topflite 15 golf balls and 3 Topflite gloves for $39.95 plus hst til the end of the month. We still have 3 of last years Callaway Diablo hybrids that are on sale for $99.95 plus hst each. Also found some logo'd toques that we are blowing out at $10 including hst. See you out there.
The good news.....only 1/2 an inch ( 13mm ) of rain overnight. The standing water is receding so if everyone takes care we should be able to play all 18 holes today. The driving range might need another day or so before we get back on it. The forecast is for scattered showers today and for the rest of the week. No rain equals good golf, at least this spring . See you out there.
Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Wind warning and rain....sound familiar? Just about an inch of rain ( 22mm ) last night. Welcome to Nov-arch. There is still a lot of standing water on the course so we will be able to play the back nine ( just walking ) this morning and reevaluate the front nine as the water recedes. Patience is the word of the day. See you out there.
Monday, March 14, 2011
Just a light rain yesterday and over night (2"/50mm). The number of gallons that has to run off and through the golf course ( 56,000,000) has exceeded the capacity of the culverts that cross Nenzel Road so we have a bit of a back up onto the course. By the end of the day, if there is no more rain, we will have a better idea of when the course will be playable. Check in latter.
Sunday, March 13, 2011
Wind warning and rain for the day, Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. Tomorrow might be better. What about those Canuks, 5 wins on a 5 game road trip. It should be a good final at the Brier ( go Manitoba go ). Dustin Johnson has a 2 stroke lead at Doral and Troy Matteson has a three stroke lead in Puerto Rico so there are lots of events to watch on TV today.
Saturday, March 12, 2011
As Mark says, it looks like it will be a good day for a round. Still some puddles out there but the drainage is working well and the greens are unbelievable. Haven't seen greens like this since I was in Palm Springs and the sun actually shines there! Don't forget about our great deals in the Golf Shop like one TopFlite 15 pak of golf balls and 3 gloves for $39.95 plus hst or a logo'd cart bag for only $99.95. I think 2011 is the year of the new putter! Come on out and see the selection of Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, Taylor Made and Ping putters. Today may be the day you get a great deal!
See you at the course.
See you at the course.
We had another half inch of rain yesterday but the wind and rain stopped just as the gates to the golf course were opened this morning. Another coincidence that we choose to believe is anything but. They're calling for some blue sky today with only a few showers -- a perfect day to get in a round, especially as tomorrow's forecast is for...well, I won't spoil today by mentioning that.

Wind warning !! The wind is a blowing and the rain is a falling, just a great start to the day. The worst of the weather is happening this morning and it looks like in the afternoon there will just be a few cloudy periods. Use the down time this morning to clean your grips and clubs and come out latter and enjoy a sunny afternoon. See you out there.

Sunday, March 6, 2011
All of the front nine greens will be open today with a couple of temps possible for the early morning. The back nine will remain closed due to snow.
Saturday, March 5, 2011
12:30 Update
- Front nine holes 2-8 on regular greens (holes 1 and 9 temp greens)
- Putting green now open
- Chipping green CLOSED
Front 9 temps, driving range, and SUNSHINE!
The sun (at least that's what I think that bright orb in the sky is) has done its job in melting the thin layer of frost that blanketed our course this morning, and we will open on the front nine with temporary greens at around 10am. Driving range will be open. So come on out and enjoy the sunshine! - Chris
Clear skies and below zero temperature after yesterday's skiff of snow means - oh, please don't make me type it out loud - winter has not quite released it's grip. We could be in for a frost delay and temporary greens are a certainty, but that didn't stop a few brave souls from coming out yesterday, so we'll see you out there.
Friday, March 4, 2011
For the first time in I-don't-know-how-long, the golf course is officially open!
Okay, so it's only nine holes. Okay, so we're on temps for the day. Okay, it's rather cold with a breeze that makes it seem even colder. BUT...it's golf. Put your sweaters and toques to good use and come on out for a walk.

Good news: Most of the snow is gone on the front nine.
Not as good news: It's frosty and the greens are frozen.
More good news: The range will be open and we will have the front nine open on temps today. Hopefully, there won't be a long delay, but check back here or contact the pro shop for updates on tee times.

AAURGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!....Just a light snow fall overnight. The course will not open on time this morning like we had hoped, yesterday. Mother nature has thrown us a curve ball. We will update conditions on the course as they improve so check back later for some (hopefully) good news. If you go out this morning be very careful driving as the roads are slushy and the vehicles are hydroplaning, if you travel too fast.
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Well to all those people hoping for rain to wash the snow away, congratulations your wishes came true. It is raining and windy (can you say hurricane force) but the snow is still here. Another day or two yet before we can get on the course. Tie anything down that isn't bolted down because the wind is going to blow. Just to keep hopes up, there is a bit of green showing through the snow this morning. Another positive to the day. Where can a person buy a kite?
Tuesday, March 1, 2011
It is still white out here, not even the driving range mats are showing yet. The forecast is for high (90 kph) winds out of the south today and rain starting later this afternoon so, hopefully the snow will go overnight and we can get back to normal around here. We will update the course conditions as they improve so visit the blog often and keep informed. The Nest will be open starting at 10:00 this morning so come and have a coffee or lunch. Enjoy your day.
Monday, February 28, 2011
We enjoyed??!!>??? a skiff of snow overnight so the course is still covered. The forecast is for showers today and the rest of the week with heavier rain on Fri. It will likely be a couple of days yet before we open if the present rate of thawing persists. Keep your spirits up, warm weather will arrive. Enjoy.
Sunday, February 27, 2011
My how time does fly when you are having fun. Feb. is almost over and truly, spring is around the corner. It is still white out on the course, not even the driving range mats are showing yet. Just showers forecast for the next couple of days and then rain on Tues. and Wed. I hope you all have carpets at home that stimp around 10 to practise your putting on. Enjoy your time away from the course, as hard as that might be.
Saturday, February 26, 2011
Today's early blog has been compromised due to an inability to type while wearing mittens. This very sentence is being typed one letter at a time with the end of a pencil that is being held between my elbows, seeing as my hands need to be near my face in order to receive a small amount of warmth from my breath. Given the obvious difficulty of this task -- i.e. pencil slippage; correcting typos; the shivering -- one would think a bit of foresight could have been employed in order to avoid starting it in the first place.

I think it's time for Kelly to take some time off. His predictions and then reporting of this cold weather is bringing me down. The GOOD NEWS! the demos he told everyone we had a couple of days ago arrived late yesterday so if you are in the market for some new sticks come on out and give them a try. We have mens and ladies drivers, fairways and hybrid demo's in Taylor Made and Callaway. We also have a mens and ladies combo set of hybrids and irons to demo. As they say about a storm, make sure your car has a full tank of gas and you have ample groceries in case you are snowed in, soooo...... NOW would be a good time to load up on new equipment before the storm hits.
See you on the range.
See you on the range.
The good news.....no new snow overnight. The temp. is -4 c so the ground is white with frost. When the sun comes out this morning and melts the frost we should be able to open on temps. History says an 11:00 start time so lets tentatively plan for that. The snow the weather office is forecasting for later today, tonight and tomorrow might pass us by... you know clean living and all that. The range will be open so at least come out and get the kinks out. See you out there.
